Advice for new LVN!!

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I'm a new LVN working on the floor of a convalescent hospital. I'm looking for any advice on time management? It's only been 3 days but I feel like passing meds feels like an eternity! I'm also looking for any general advice for a new nurse! Thanks! 😊

A great brain sheet and patience! The more you work, the more you will find everything including time management falling into place. Don't beat yourself up too hard! It is totally normal to feel overwhelmed by passing meds for the first few months of working a new job.

It's only your 3rd day. Create a cheat sheet. I would make up a sheet of all the residents on my hall, (I had 2 different ones because I never knew which one I'd be on from day to day), red marks for BPs, green for finger sticks, A for apple sauce, C for crush, BM for if they had a BM that day, and any other notes you need, I would get to work about 15 mins early to see if I needed to familiarize myself with any med changes or new orders. Didn't need to worry about dressings, we had a separate wound nurse, Build a good rapport with your CNAs. They will save you a lot of headaches in the long run. Don't sweat it, you'll be fine, all of us who worked in a SNF have gone through it and we survived.
