Advice needed on new position

Published

I am a new graduate I have been looking several months for a position and I finally landed one as a Charge Nurse for a small ALF. I am very excited but nervous at the same time. I am a quick learner and not at all worried about the responsibilites of the position however; I am a little concerned about the staff. When I was interviewed for the position I was told that there are a few staff members who are not really "open" to new employees coming in. This was told to me by the owner and administrator. I couldnt believe my ears. I was thinking is this a sorority or a business?? She also said "I hope they don't run you off." Hmmm... I took the position because I need a place to start getting experience as its very hard as a new grad to get your foot in the door. I am just nervous that the administrator allows them to run the show and I am not sure how to handle this. Any advice would be great I start in another week:)

Hi MSMIAMI, I just want to let you know that we (nurses) always have to start somewhere. As a new grad I congratulate you. My advise to you is not to let anyone intimidate you at your job, and I believe that whatever is yours no man can take it. So keep your mind open and learn as much as you can . You will do just fine. Good luck! :nurse
