Advantage w/ other certs and/or licenses?

Published

Hi,

It's my first post here and I just had a quick question. I'm coming close to the end of my first year of respiratory school. When I decided on health care as a career choice I had originally wanted to enter nursing, but it would have been another two to three years b/f I could start an ADN program and cannot currently afford a BSN program. I was thinking about abandoning nursing and just doing respiratory as a career, but now am considering nursing again.

I still intend to finish my respiratory education. In fact, I figure it was probably the better way to go, seeing as I will now have several years experience in critical care medicine and ACLS, PALS, NRP training before I become a nurse. Not to mention, I'll have decent income going, along with the potential tuition assistance from my future employer, to fund a BSN as opposed to an ADN.

Aside from these financial advantages, is there any particular professional advantage to having an RRT license(or any other health care/sciences related licenses, certs or degress), such as faster advancement or more opportunities? Or does everyone basically start from scratch?

Thanks

I think you will have a wide array of medical knowledge that will definitely benefit you if anything. I'm not sure how it all works, but personally an RN with all that under her belt is quite impressive.
