Admission into accelerated RN/BSN

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello! I am graduating this year with a degree in biology (chemistry and economics minor) from University of Delaware. I have been looking into the accelerated RN/BSN programs and was wondering how competitive they are? I know their minimum requirements are on their website, but I figure the real numbers for acceptance are much higher. I have a 3.1 GPA, around 180 hours of heath care experience and am taking the GRE at the end of the month. I was looking into NY/PA/NJ area (NJ Resident). I'm just trying to get a better idea of where I stand in the application process. Thanks so much for any information.

Out here in Cali, they're pretty competitive.

A program at Sacramento State says that their last class had an average GPA of 3.6. I don't recall the GRE scores but they were very good.

The direct-entry MSN program at Sonoma State University had 102 applicants for 12 slots. I don't know the numbers for the others that were admitted but I had a 4.0 through a chemistry major/biology minor as well as the nursing pre-reqs.

By all means, apply, but don't put all your eggs in one basket. A 3.1 GPA may not be too competitive so be sure to do well on the GRE, get great references, and knock their socks off with your essay and supporting materials. I'd apply to many schools including ADN programs that have a competitive admissions process.
