Some of the ACNP's I know volunteered to trial some of the proposed questions in that certification exam during its development and they did say that the test questions are quite clinical in nature and has a bit more critical care content than ANCC's. However, I've not known anyone who have taken the actual exam maybe because Michigan is still not listed as one of the states that accept the ACNPC exam by AACN. It looks like Ohio is one state that does, is that where you are from?

Yes, I'm in Ohio. It was just accepted by the state about 6 months ago. After using Barkley's review CDs, I'm noticing that there isn't as much critical care as I thought in - However, Barkley states that his review is valid for all certifying bodies. I think I may also review my CCRN prep book to review vents, IABP, drips, etc.
For what it's worth, I've taken both ANCC's ACNP-BC exam and AACN's CCRN exam. While the CCRN exam does delve into the nitty gritty of critical care, the ACNP-BC exam includes content from a provider's perspective and not a staff nurse's like the CCRN. The clinical questions in the ACNP-BC exam are presented as case scenarios and typically, multiple question stem from one particular case. Do you know if the ACNPC exam include the dreaded Synergy Model questions?
