ACLS Skills Test

Hi everyone!

I'm just about to start my last semester of an accelerated BSN program, and had this crazy idea of getting ACLS under my belt over the break. I'm done with the online piece (did the AHA HeartCode Part 1 program) and passed the didactic part.

Does anyone have any experience going in for JUST the skills test? What did they have you do?

I'm a BLS instructor so do have access to the skills sheets etc. (which are all pretty easy to find online anyway), but I'm still not clear on exactly what they do. They gave me a "30-45 minutes" timeframe for testing. I haven't done a dedicated practice session (they didn't offer it, so maybe it's included..?).

I asked if there was anything i should do to prepare and he just kinda chuckled and said no... thoughts/insight? I'm guessing at least reviewing the algorithms and meds?

Thanks!!

I got my ACLS while I was in my second year of an accelerated nursing program. The skills test required us to get into groups which each individual having a certain role. There was a machine that would depict the dummy's vital signs, and we were required to act out the scene. We had to know which interventions to carry out for different rhythm strips. It was certainly challenging, but everyone in the class passed. Additionally, I think you come out feeling more prepared and relaxed in the event there is a code situation. I also think it's a great thing to be able to have on your resume as a new grad.

I think there are also some YouTube videos you can watch to give you an idea of what the skills test may be like. Good luck!
