My name is Silvia, I am an Italian nurse working in a hemodialysis ward since 10 years. I live in Tuscany. Forgive my not-perfect English, but I think that you could be the right persons to ask something I am dealing with since a long time.
One of the main issues in my every-day job is what (the hell!) to do with the acid concentrates leftovers. In my ward we use all these machines: Fresenius 5008, Gambro Artis, Nikkinso DDB-5 and Bellco Flexya, and the last waste procedure introduced by my hospital has been to ... incinerate them all, toghether with bicarbonate cartridges with their leftovers as well. We all agree on the fact that the best situation is when the machine uses all the acid and there are no leftovers after the treatment, but in everyday practice we all know that it happens rarely! My reasearch trhrough forums, literature and arcticles like yours tells me that there's a wide practice of pouring the leftovers down comon sink/sluice but I never found a WRITTEN and OFFICIALY SHARED DOCUMENT that explains who/how/why we do like this with evidences of it. So, if you own any kind of reference in this sence (or in the opposite!), could you please share with me?
