I am in the fortunate position of being accepted to an ADN program at Mount St. Mary's in Los Angeles. Do you have any tips for me, such as things to study beforehand, electronic gadgets to invest in, etc.?
I'm so excited and in complete kick-ass mode! I start this fall!

Just relax and enjoy your break now! :)
I may get a PDA (or just borrow hubby's) to store info on meds, etc....but I'm not sure yet.
Congrats!!!!!!!
I've read some posts about PDAs and how helpful they are, especially with the nurse note application you can purchase. Thanks for the tips!
What's the nurse note app?? Sounds interesting...you must fill me in!

I was in total shock when I first started my BSN program. The orientation schedule, online tests... blah blah blah. University level schooling is a lot different than community college.. and took a lot of adjusting. I breezed through my CC courses and got near perfect graded... I am not used to B's and haven't seen an A in a year. (Our "A" is a 95% or above!!! ridiculous!)
My first quarter was a total blur now that I look back. I also think that everyone in my class had at least one nervous breakdown that first quarter... this is normal and you can't prepare for everything...
My advice:
-get organized the first day. We received what was the equivalent of the Oxford English Dictionary worth of papers, prep sheets, and other junk on the first day. Look over everything and know what everything is and where you put it.
-get an NCLEX-RN review now. This will not only help you with the RN
exam but also when you aren't quite sure of a concept during school.
-study hard but remember to allow a day of rest.
-Don't get discouraged. You will feel like you don't know anything during your first quarter and maybe even for quite a while. I have just finished my 2nd year and it took me two quarters ago to feel really secure with everything. This will come and pass and come again. Just believe in yourself.
-During clinical... ask every RN preceptor you are working with on advice, how they like their unit, why they like it, which ones they don't like and why, what hospitals they have worked for and their experiences.... this will help you gauge where you will be the best fit as a RN.
GOOD LUCK!
