Accepted as an ALTERNATE!!! Should I be excited?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Received a letter stating I was chosen as an alternate. I'd like to know if any of YOU started as alternates and actually made it in the program. How does this alternate thing work anyways? All I was told was to show up for orientation.

The school by the way is Mt. Sac in Walnut, Ca.

Thanks in advance...

I've never had that sitution myself, but I can almost bet you will be in the class bc there is always a student that cant start the program or rejects thea offer to go else where.

Good luck.

I was selected as an alternate for my LPN-RN program. Before i got excited, the first thing I did was call and find out what number I was on the alternate list. Turns out I was #2, so within three weeks I got a call letting me know I had been accepted. So definitely call and find out if you can. Many people apply to more than one program and decide to go elsewhere or other circumstances prevent them from starting right away. Good luck!

First, how many alternates are there? If only a few, and you are number one - I'd say it is almost probable you are a shoe in. Because of the way the economy is and the way things work, someone may have done everything necessary, but not have been prepared. Someone may fail the drug test, or miss a day... So, I would definitely show up for orientation...

It must suck to be in that position. I would be going nuts. I wish you the best of luck and hope you make it in :)

So I called this morning because I was going crazy all night and had to force myself to go to sleep lol, but I'm an alternate for the LVN-RN transition course :crying2:, on top of that I'm one of the top TEN!, on top of that there is still another waitlist with students who've taken this LVN-RN transition course that are waiting for a spot. After she said all that, I didn't ask anymore questions...smh.

So, you do NOT want to be an alternate for the LVN to RN? Were you aiming for something else (you have the crying face next to it like it is a bad thing).

There may be a wait list - but that is different than an alternate. They are ones (generally speaking) who were NOT accepted into this program, by being an alternate, you would be accepted first. Top ten is good, but can they be more specific... top 3... first? If you were after the 5ish range, then I wouldn't be that excited... but with what you said above, I still say don't give up hope.

I was rejected the first time I applied, but still got in at the last minute when enough people backed out/ got accepted elsewhere. I hope you get in! Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I'm going to try and stay positive about it. Hopefully I get a seat in the course...then I'm off to the second waitlist lol

I think being an alternate or on the top 10 of any waiting list is better than not getting in at all. Just stay positive and pray. Life happens and people give up their spot or accept to go to another nursing program instead.

Good luck! :)

I have applied for the LVN program college at Grayson County College in TX, & just found out that I am an alternate as well. I am alternate #3, BUT there are 5 standby's that go ahead of the alternates. So I'm in the same boat. EVERYONE PLEASE PRAY FOR US!!

I don't know how the LPN to RN programs work, but my RN program went through all but three people on the waitlist last year (and they have a wait list of 45). So to me being in the top ten sounds GREAT!!! How many people do they allow into the program? And how many people do they waitlist?
