Accelerated Nursing, CT

Published

Hello,

I am currently going into my junior year at the University of Connecticut. When I was first accepted, I was a biology major, but switched to allied health sciences because I realized I wanted to pursue a nursing degree. I am currently looking into a few accelerated nursing programs that I can apply to. I've mostly been looking into Uconn, Southern, St. Josephs, and even been hopeful for UCLA or any others in southern California. I want to become an RN and eventually an APRN (which I think is going to be required to have a doctorate soon, correct me if I'm wrong).

I guess my first question is what are my chances of getting into any of these schools? I currently have a 3.58 GPA. In addition, I get mostly A's and B's in all my classes with my lowest being biology with a B-. I've taken higher level math courses including calc Ia(A) and calc 1b(B) and stats(A). One thing that's making me worried is I had to retake chemistry. I had a D-, but grade replaced it and got an A the second time.

Is there anyone that was accepted into any of these programs that could let me know where they think I would stand? I know these programs are extremely competitive and I really want to know if I should take an extra year to ensure I have the right grades.

And is it better to do a bachelors accelerated program or a masters accelerated program?

Also, if any bachelors or masters programs comes to mind that you think would be good for me to apply to, please tell!

Thank you!

Andrea

I don't know about those specific programs, but I was just accepted into Northeastern's accelerated program (the first year is bachelor's, then you can stay on for a master's for two more years). I had a 3.59 undergrad gpa. I did have an A in all the prereqs I needed, so I'm sure that helped.
