ABSN vs BSN?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello all,

I am possibly looking into applying for a BSN, but I am not sure if I should go for an ABSN or a BSN program.

I already have a BA and MA in non-clinical fields and I have heard the ABSN is geared more for folks who are switching careers. It seems like this would make sense, as the learning would even be different than with junior year students.

I also have a baby and a toddler at home, and I am worried that the demands and the cost of the ABSN program would make it unsustainable, even in the short term. As far as I can see, the BSN program is only 1 quarter longer, with a summer off, but the cost is over $6000 per quarter more. Ouch!

Any thoughts from folks who've done this before would be greatly appreciated. I would love to hear the reasons that you may have chosen one or the other, and how that worked out for you.

Thank you so much!
