About to start excelsior! ????'s

Students Online Learning

Hi everyone. I just enrolled with excelsior for the AS in nursing. Presently I'm a medic, and i CAN'T WAIT TO START! I am waiting to have my official transcript review done, but i know that i need micro, lifespan, a humanities course, plus the nursing tests. I have chancellors guides, and i took the practice exam for nc1 and got an 87, so im gonna tackle that test first.

I was looking into taking micro online with brigham young university. anyone take that class through them? Also how do you go about getting approval to take outside courses? and what do you do once you finish the course so it gets applied towards your degree?

also, i'd rather not take the ethics test thru excelsior...was wondering if anyone had ideas on what to take to satisfy the remaining 3 credits in humanities i need? already took into to philosophy....

have a great day!

If you haven't already, you might check into taking the CLEP exam for your humanities credit. I took the Analyzing/Interpreting Literature exam for 6 sem hrs. of credit. It's pretty inexpensive and I think the test took about an hour and a half to complete.

I am also a medic and finished my nursing degree through EC. Although it's not for everyone, it certainly worked for me. I highly recommend it.

Good luck! PM or e-mail me if you need any more info.

Be careful when taking any gen eds that you think you need because a 3rd party (Chancellor's, RUE, College Network, etc) told you that you need it. They may be right, but the final decision is up to EC so wait until they do your transcript review so you can know for sure what to take and you don't waste time and money on something you don't.

I second the suggestion on CLEPs. EC can also give you info on what CLEP exams would count towards whatever courses you need. CLEPs are a lot cheaper and (from what I've heard) a bit easier than EC's exams. I took the sociology CLEP. I don't remember the exact cost (under $100) and studied for 2 1/2 hours and passed (it's pass/fail).
