Actually, yoganurse, I love the whole holistically spiritual approach to nursing and we do need to be reminded of its tenets from time to time.

Keep on keeping on!

However, right now I'm more concerned with trying to keep an eye on this patient and prevent him from consuming his own excretions.

You had my attention until you referenced Jean Watson. I'm a big proponent of the holistic component of nursing, which is why I'm opposed to quacks who give holistic care a bad name, with Jean Watson being the Queen of nursing quackery. Those who feel free to reference Watson are clearly under the impression that nursing has no standards, those who hold this belief should not be allowed to continue to hold a nursing license.

I'd never heard of her so I looked her up. I can't find in her bio where she's ever actually nursed. Went right to a PhD and started her schtick telling the rest of us how to do it. Her tenets pretty much point out the obvious and then embroider a bit. She really lost me when she usurped Maslow's Hierarchy.

Yoganurse, I am not sure why you posted the quote from Jean Watson and the restatement of the general idea above it. It looks like an answer above a question, a snippet of an assignment or something like that.

It would be great if you could fill out somewhat the general purpose of your post on this topic. We haven't had a lively discussion of Jean Watson's theories in quite a while!

edit: I see the entire thing is a quote from a separate source, but my question about your reason for posting remains.

I've had a healthy dose of nursing theory and the only thing that I took away from it all was a profound disbelief that someone could peddle such complete nonsense that would later be taken seriously-Academia at its best. PhD=Piled High and Deeper
