A few questions about FAU...

Published

hello,

my name is batlin, i am a pre-nursing student about to complete my a.a. in nursing (4 credits left) from broward community college in south florida. i live very close to fau in boca and was wondering if anyone here is currently a student or has graduated from their traditional bsn program.

i am hoping someone could describe the typical school week as far as lecture classes and labs/clinicals go? are you happy with the choice you made? were you adequately prepared for the nclex? lastly, did you or do you plan to continue towards an msn?

unfortunately, i will still have to work at least a part-time job to support my family while working on my bsn. i've left messages for the nursing administrator but haven't received a return call yet. i did look at nova university in davie, and was told by their nursing admin that their program was 8am-5pm m-f for 27 months. not much time to earn money for bills =(

any information is greatly appreciated!

thanks,

bat

ps. i've tried the search on here but i think "fau" is too small to find any matches.

I was accepted to their accelerated BSN program but don't know much about the traditional. Have you tried email? I usually got answers right away when I communicated via email, but they took forever to return phonecalls. FAU's pass rate for the NCLEX was something like 94% last year, but I don't know if they used any selective measures to weed out students who probably wouldn't have passed.

Thanks for the information! By the way, could you describe the typical school hours for the accel program?

Any weekend clinicals?

Thanks again!

Hi Batlin

I am starting FAU's accelerated program next week so I can't tell you for sure what the hours of the program are, as they change each semester. It is a 3 semester program, starting in May and ending May the following year. This summer I will be taking 16 credits and starting clinicals in June. I am taking 2 online courses for the summer and have class Mondays from 1-4 and Tuesdays 4:30-8. From what I was told they start you off slow in clinicals at first 4 hours once a week, to 12 hour days, once a week. I haven't been assigned my clinical schedule yet, so I don't know all the details of it. Note that the traditional program is very different - in terms of # credits taken per semester, when classes are and when clinicals are. You should go onto the FAU nursing website: http://nursing.fau.edu/newnursingsite/ugradprog.html and email the admissions for the traditional program your questions. Galore is right - they are much better at returning emails than phone calls. You could also look at the course catalog and try to get a general idea of the class times/schedules. I will also be working part-time in the accelerated program - I'll let you know how that works out!
