hi! i feel silly for asking this, but i am a little confused. i am currently enrolled in the rn to bsn program at chamberlain. i just finished my first 2 eight week classes with a's! i am going to do the bsn to msn program with them after i get the bsn. this is what i am confused about.....after i get the msn, what do i do then? i would like to be an educator or either a fnp........i am very confused about this. do i have to go to yet another school? do i have to do clinicals? also, does anyone know how long the bsn to msn program is with chamberlain? thank you to anyone with these answers and sorry if i sound silly. :clown:

I believe that if you do 1 class at a time the BSN to MSN is 2 years. If taking two classes then it is a year. But anyone who knows the answer, please correct me if I am wrong :) For FNP, yes you would need to attend more school. As for being an educator, I know at my nursing school you had to have a masters to teach in the nursing program and be a clinical instructor you had to be BSN and be working on MSN. Hope this helps.

Yes, if you want to become a FNP you will need to go to another school and earn a post-master's certificate as a family nurse practitioner. You usually do not need to retake the core classes, but you will need to take advanced patho, advanced pharm and advanced health assessment plus the FNP courses and do the required clinical hours (usually between 500-700 hours). It usually takes an additional year if you already have a Master's degree. You could just enroll in a DNP program that will allow you to add the FNP speciality as well. The Chamberlain MSN is 2 years if you follow the standard program. It can be done in a little over a year if you double up on classes. Good luck!
