A couple of questions about Houston schools

Good Morning -

I am looking into Houston for Nursing school. I have heard that HCC may not be the best and I wanted to know if anything had changed.

What are the good nursing schools and the bad ones?

I am looking at applying in the Fall. I will be getting my Bachelors from UTA in December.

What can I do to make my application stronger?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can say only that the Texas BON's website shows that the HCC ADN program is being downrated from "Full Approval" to "Full Approval With Warning" due to low NCLEX pass rates. This change appears in the Board Meeting Agenda for the January 22-23, 2015 meeting. I have heard complaints from friends of mine who attended the program that it's disorganized and too crowded.

To be fair, the Kingwood and North Harris ADN programs are also being downrated for the same reason. Some people are of the opinion that the low pass rates are due to testing changes from two years ago, but others point out that the majority of programs managed to weather the changes.

Thanks for your response. Can you tell me how many other Nursing programs are there in Houston?

Quite a few! BON website can tell you how many/names and then look up each school using the search bar to find out the dish on what it takes to get in and the school's strengths and weaknesses!
