A&P2 vent

Published

I am in my second week of A&P2 and am wondering if I can pass this class. My prof is an MD and he is not a good teacher. He rambles on and on for the entire class. He uses power points but does not hand them out and it is impossible to take notes fast enough to get everything and actually absorb anything. I swear I would drop this class if I could. But it is one of my last pre-recs and if I withdraw I will lose a point. :banghead:

So....I am trying to stay on top of my reading, summarize my pathetic notes and utilize online resources. Any other suggestions for getting through a difficult class with a difficult teacher?

Ask if it would be ok to record the lecture. Then you can go home later and rewrite, or type up your notes and take your time absorbing the lecture. You could also ask the professor if he would hand out the power point notes. You never know...he might be willing to do that. Also, work on any objectives at the beginning or review questions at the end of the chapters. Those tend to be the kinds of things you'll find on the tests.

Thanks! I am recording the lecture (forgot to mention that). I did ask for the power points and he finally decided to give us the text books power points. So we can print them out which is fine but they are not his power point. I have no idea why he wont just give us his. SO I did print out the power points from the web site. Also, as he lectures I try to follow along in the text book and highlight what he is stressing.

Sounds like you're doing all the right stuff. Good luck!

I have an instructor that does sorta the same thing (not A&P though). He is very monotone and talks "at" the class rather than "to" us. He doesn't interact with us, doesn't ask questions, try to make it fun or interesting. Honestly I could just read the book and not bother going to lecture and learn the same thing if not more. I usually read the chapter, take notes while reading, take the end of chapter test, and then print off the textbook powerpoints (provided by the publisher). That's all I use and then anything the instructor says will be on the test. I just had my first exam and didn't do so well. Apparently the study guide he gave us was only about 5% of the test. Everything else was straight out of the book or those end of chapter tests, which I didn't study as much as I did the study guide.
