A&P 1 help!!

Published

I study every day. I take good notes too. I have an exam coming up that involves the orientation of the human body, the tissues, integumentary system, skeletal system, tissues of bones and the skeleton, and some biochem. I've been taking the practice tests online and get A's on them. My professor made a study guide for us and I wrote out all the answers. I feel like I don't know everything though. Like te structures, functions, and locations for tissues for example. Some I do but if someone were to quiz me I don't think I'd know it.

I study at least 4-6 hours a day. I get headaches when reading, my eyes feel strained, and I wake up with headaches. I might be over-doing it but I need an A in this class. Any advic? I hear a lot of people fail the first exam and I'm not the best test taker.

emily12345,

It sounds like you are doing everything necessary to learn the information. The more you take practice tests and quiz yourself the better you'll become at your recall. When I took A&P it was A&P 1&2 combined with a lab -- it was a 6 credit class in one semester. It was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, but I prepared myself for the exam(s) the same way you are. My teacher would have scenario questions also, so it was never a straight forward recall, I had to apply the knowledge to a specific scenario. I think that you are just nervous because you don't know exactly what to expect yet. But, you should trust yourself, it sounds like you've definitely put the time in!! Good Luck! ;)

Hey! Well great so far, sounds like you've been on top of it! I agree with the above comments, but when I took A&P I found that the best way to study was to do it separately. I KNOW, that sounds crazy. But learn the patho first, then the organs and tissues it applies too. Use sample tests to quiz yourself on patho, and teaching the concepts to a classmate, friend, or even your dog will be good for you. Just need to explain it, verbally, to anyone or anything you want so that you can really master the material. As for the anatomy part, sorry but that's mostly memorization. Make flashcards (study blue is great for that, it's a free flashcard app for your phone), or go into the lab and take pictures of the models- print them out and label EVERYTHING. I think that application through practice quizzes and tests, and verbalizing the information by talking it through will really help. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great :)
