A&P: Athabasca or TRU-OL?

I haven't taken thoses courses yet. But as far as I know, for TRU OL, you need 4 BIOL courses, 1593,1595 (Lab),1693 and 1695 (Lab) to fulfil the pre-req of BCIT or UBC. Isn't it?

Fyi, I am also looking at pre-reqs and trying to applying nursing school.

Hey Charlotte. With TRU OL, they offer the complimentary lab courses, but they are not required for admission to UBC and BCIT; so only 1593 and 1693. However, Langara is the only school I am aware that requires you to take the labs as well. In fact, they do not consider AU BIOL 235 to be acceptable, since there is no lab component offered. Currently, I am leaning toward going with Athabasca, because you get to choose when to write the exams. With TRU OL, I believe they schedule them in advance. Btw, are you currently enrolled in another program?

Hi Asparagus, yes you are right. Sorry. I checked again and UBC and BCIT doesn't need Lab component. But all other schools do; KPU, LANG, UFV and DOUG. I have already taken out KPU and DOUG of my list because of their many pre-reqs. But if I take A&P, I would like it to be applicable to most of the schools. That is why I am hesitate about taking online course from TRU or AU.

I heard that TRU Lab courses are offered once a year only and it is already finished for this year. So if I did with TRU, I would finish my all 4 courses around August of next year. So I can't decide if this is a good idea yet.

I am a new immigrant with a prior degree. but I need to redo all my pre-req here (that is a long story). I am not currently in any program. but I have a plan to take ENGL course in September. The rest of the pre-req will be done in next year hopefully.

I see. With TRU, you would have to attend the labs in Kamloops, which is a bit of a pain. Like you, I have also taken Douglas and KPU out of the picture. If you want to still be elegible for Langara, I would suggest enrolling an an undergraduate student there, and completing your prerequisites there. However, I am not sure what the status of getting into A&P courses there is, but I am assuming it is difficult like it at other schools.

I am not too worried about taking A&P with Athabasca because I know the majority of schools accross Canada accept their credentials, Langara seems to be an exception.

Furthermore in your case, I would suggest you take a look at 4-year nursing programs which do not require university-level prerequisites, if your international high school credentials are valid and your grades are good. I know UBCO and UVIC offer this kind of program. UVIC's is in partnership with a few local colleges.
