Can anyone tell me anything specific about the Appleton area hospitals? I'm currently working as a travel nurse, in either med/surg or pediatrics. I'll be moving to Appleton permanently in January and would love to take a travel job to scope things out a bit first, but will take a permanent job if no travel jobs open up.

I'd love to hear what people think about the different specific hospitals there: Theda Clark, St. Elizabeth's, Appleton Medical Center. Maybe there are other ones I don't know about yet... How does the hospital "feel"? What are pros or cons of any of them? Do they care for their patients well or just treat them like a room number? If I take a permanent job, I'd love to know a little more of what I'm getting myself into! If you're able to offer any other info like shifts (8's or 12's), salary, benefits, etc... that's great. Thanks for your help!!

I didn't work in one of the hospitals in Appleton, but I worked for Affinity Visiting Nurses which is part of Ministry Home Care and it was not a very goog experience. I would definately recommend checking things out as a traveler first. I hear it varies greatly from unit to unit the working conditions. St. Elizabeth's, AMC are the only hospitals in Appleton. Theda Clark is in Neenah, which is no more than 10 miles from just about any point in Appleton. There are is also Bellin & Aurora in Greenbay & Aurora and Mercy in Oshkosh either of those cities are with in a 30 minute drive. St. Elizabeth's & Mercy are Affinity Hospitals and both places you can find positions listed at affinityhealth.org, Theda & AMC are both Thedacare facilities and you can access open positions at thedacare.org. In general the entire are has very few openings right now. The Fox Vally is pretty saturated with nurses so unfortunately the pay is lower than alot of other places in WI also.
