WGU- Pre-license RN program

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Hello,

I am interested in the pre license RN program. I was wondering if anyone is currently in the program in Dallas, Tx. I would like to know what hospital you do your clinical. I was told by a counselor from WGU that they use Lakepointe hospital. Is this true. How are the classes. Any help will help. Thank you.

I was told the same, and that they are opening a new Dallas location soon.

Twierch,

Are you going to attend ?

That is my plan. I am in the middle of my prereqs at UTA. So I have not yet applied, but have been in contact with an adviser. I hope to apply at the end of next spring semester.

That is my plan as well. I have a bachelor degree and a master's in education and I am currently a teacher. I have some C in my science classes so I am planning on taking them from strighterline. What classes are you taking at UTA. If you want, you can email me at deba4384@gmail.com. This way I can reply quicker. Wish you all the best!

deba - I just started my prereqs, currently taking A&P I. At UTA it is an accelerated format, so each class is done over 5-8 weeks. I am feeling quite overwhelmed and afraid I won't make the grade. I currently have a B, but all this material is so much and so fast.

I only have an associates, so I am working on my BSN - I almost became a teacher, but changed my mind to nursing...I am a SAHM right now.

Good luck to you as well!

Oh wow. So when is the A&P class over. I am sure you will do fine. Please let me how that goes. I was thinking about taking my class with straighter line since I want to apply to . But I am considering UTA as well.

Actually, I just came on here to make a post about straighterline. I am feeling so overwhelmed with this 8 week A&P class. I only made an 82 on my first exam despite studying like mad. I like the idea of having the option of doing a self-paced course at Straighterline. However, I am not sure where all those coursees will transfer - I just put an email into UTA to find out if they will transfer there. I really only want to consider the possibility of online schools so as to be available during most days for my son. So I am going to need to spend some time figuring out more options. I really don't want to do an accelerated program and kill myself in the process...LOL!!!

I agree with you. I have a 6 month old and I would like to find an online school to get my degree. I thinking about doing the program because u can still have a job while completing the program. What schools are you thinking about?

I was originally considering UTA, but the more I think about it, the more I do not want to do an accelerated program. It is very important to me to part of my son's life everyday, so an accelerated program would make me practically unavailable for a year. As of right now, is it. If I don't get in there then I may consider a community college in the DFW area or TWU when my son is older. If TWU had their classes in Denton and clincials in Dallas then they would be my top choice, but they have both classes and clincials in Dallas 5-6 days a week. However, the thing I liked about their program is that you have clincials from 8-4:30 and class time is the same. I really don't want to do clincials for 36 hours over 3 days with 6 or more hours of drive time, but it is the best option I have found which is why I am hoping WGU opens a location a little closer to me. WGU is my first choice right now with UTA or TWU as a back up plan in the future.

I have to agree with you. is my only choice as well. What other classes are you planning on taking with UTA? Are you almost done with the A&P class? I'm thinking about taking my classes with straighter line but they do not transfer to every school just in case I decide to go else where.

I currently plan to finish A&P I which will be done mid May and then next fall I will take A&P II and Microbiology and in January, Chemistry and Dev Psych. I would like to take classes at Straighterline because they are self paced. However, I have to call UTA and find out if Straighterline's courses transfer just in case I cannot get into for some reason - I don't think they will transfer though. I am worried about the TEAVs but plan on studying for it this summer. I haven't had a math course in at least 10 years, so I am planning to spend everyday over the summer working from the beginning through algebra. I have never been very strong at math, and in fact one of the reasons I chose UTA in the beginning was because they require the HESI exam which is much easier than the TEAVs. However, WGU is really my choice and I will probably just keep applying there until I get in. I need to talk to the adviser about that since I am not sure how many times you can apply. If I knew my chances of getting into WGU was guaranteed, I would go with Straighterline. However it is a big risk to take all these classes and they only transfer to WGU. My adviser said science GPA is a big factor getting into WGU along with TEAVs. So, taking accelerated courses at UTA makes it much harder to get an A in science, but straighterline may not transfer anywhere else. For now I am taking classes at UTA because taking all your course work there gives you a better chance of getting into their AP program. GOSH so many decisions!!! Truly, accelerated classes are a full time job!
