Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

Hey!!

I am a student nurse in WV. I will be graduating in 1 1/2 yrs. I am very excited about that.

Good luck in school - I'm a D+E graduate, so I know all your instructors... I am working at DMH so will probably see you around when you do clinicals..

Hey barefootlady - What nursing issues would you like to discuss? I agree this state has it's share of nursing problems. I was never employed anywhere that made me do mandatory overtime so that has never been an issue for me. Pay is not the greatest in WV, I agree. You want an administration that understands where you're coming from? -- you'll never find one. They are too far removed to understand us. What do you think?

hmmm...I feel silly--haha didn't know we had our own forum for us WV nurses! Hello wo everyone!

Welcome wv_nurse 2003,

Do you graduate soon? I will graduate in December. I'm a non-traditional student (age 46) went back to school after being out of high school for 25 yrs. I'm so glad I did. I love it.

Good Luck to you. I'm from Mason County, where are you located?

Hi Everyone;

I have been off for over a week. I think we all have an idea of what issues here in WV we, as nurses, have to face and are facing each day. Yes, the pay SUCKS. Yes, administration is not interested in hearing our problems. It is our job to be more vocal

and more active in the policy making committee's in our various

institutions. We need to speak up in staff meetings about issues that effect our practice. We need to brain storm and use this forum to support each other. Just some idea's.

Ohhh..thank goodness I am not a new grad! I graduated from WVU in 1986. I've wroked various jobs, and right now I'm teaching part time--and trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up the rest of the time!

Nice to meet you!

Hi. I am Sarah and I just got my acceptance letter for Garnet's LPN program. School starts at the end of January. I look forward to coming here (and to the other discussion boards) for help.

Regarding the low pay, remember, every job pays lower in West Virginia. We have one of the worst economies in the country; parts of the state are darn near third world. Also, our cost of living is a lot lower than other states. It really does even out (mostly).

Hello, I never knew there was a forum for WV nurses until now. I am an ADN working on my BSN and found this BB while doing research for a paper. I worked in the hospital for two yrs and have done home health for the past 6 yrs and love it. The hours can be long and the paperwork overwhelming, but I love the independence and flexibility. I lived a few yrs in VA Beach area and found that the nursing wages were the same there as here. I would love to work some per diem shifts in a local hospital, but the overtime and staffing conditions has thus far scared me off. Can you imagine how powerful nurses could be if they worked together?

hello bb mates; i have been off for a week or more. i am still looking for that weekend option in nc but i may have to give up on it. i think i may have to give up on lots of things, like eating, soon. i am sorry that i have not gotten back to some of the people on here who have asked questions, either been gone, flooded with no electricity, or out looking for work. right now with the holidays, its the pits to be looking for work. i hope everybody had a good thanksgiving. am leaving again later tonight for another look into positions. will be back on soon.

Barefootlady,

Are you going to move to NC? I have been thru there a few times. Went to Myrtle Beach 3 times, love it there.

Good luck in finding the job you want.

Dixie
