Wages for RN in Seattle

Hi friends:

I am thinking about moving to Seattle area. I will like to know how is RN job market there? How much they pay you? I have 1.5 year experience as med/surg RN. And do they offer any insurance or other benefits? It seems like Seattle a good place to live. Thanks for the input.

Welcome to Seattle! I am a native and live downtown. It is a great, progressive and very diverse city with incessant rain (don't worry, summer does come) and beautiful scenery.

There are many excellent, well-renowned hospitals here. If you like trauma or working with immigrants, Harborview is our level 1 trauma center. The UW Med Center is the official hospital of the University of WA at which they do incredible work. It's a great hospital.

Currently, I work at Overlake Hospital Medical Center which is a not-for-profit hospital on the Eastside of Lake Washington, in Bellevue. I love it there.

I will tell you that staffing and working conditions in the Pacific Northwest are some of the best in the US seriously. For an RN with 1.5 years experience, they pay about $24-25 hours base with differentials for eve,noc, and weekends.

All hospitals offer competitive insurance packages. I know firsthand that UW and Harborview (state benefits) give good benefits. Overlake where I work at has excellent insurance benefits. I am very happy with my medical coverage. Everyone has their own opinions on what good benefits are but I'm sure you'll be pleased.

zacarias - I have active duty orders for Madigan Army Medical Center, FT Lewis, WA, with report date of April 3rd. My wife has been an RN for almost 13 years. Her experience is in cardiac nursing; stepdown/telemetry floor & emergency nursing. She has spoken to a Providence St Peters Hospital [Olympia] nursing recruiter. Can you share your thoughts on the Providence system, and possibly St Peters specifically?

Hey I am an ER nurse at St Clare in Lakewood (same exit as McChord AFB directly before Ft Lewis) and although I have not ever worked at St Petes, I have heard nothing but great things. We have people I work with that work per diem and also agency there and love it. Does your wife like children? From what I understand St Petes has a high ped population. They also do a clinical ladder program for pay if you know what that is. Good luck and welcome to Washington!! (Despite complaints of rain, people continue to move here and never leave)

No, my wife has never really done Ped Nursing, although she is PALS certified. As a backup to her ST Peters application prospect, any ER RN positions available where you work? If so, do ya'll get alot of heart patients? Cardiac is my wife's specialty.

I like the Providence system but I don't have any experience about Tacoma hospitals. I'm a strictly Seattle and parts north.

Does anyone know what agency Providence in Olympia uses for travel nurses? I'm moving back to Seattle area after 15 years with my RN degree, and I am looking for some info on good agencies in the area. My father-in-law is living in Olympia, so we thought we'd start there. Any info on Providence or area agencies would be VERY helpful for us - I would be coming as a travel nurse until we figure out where to settle.
