Seattle Central Applicants Fall 2011

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hey!

Did anyone else apply yesterday for the Seattle Central Nursing Program? I'm really nervous because I applied early last year and didn't get in. This year, I went directly to the post office across the street right when they opened so hopefully, it'll work this year! Anyone else nervous? Also, does anyone know how many people they accept each year?

i know it hasn't been that long since they closed the application period, but has anyone heard anything from sccc yet?

I was told by a current 1st year student that emails were sent out on Memorial Day weekend last year. This year it falls on the 30th of May, so my sporting guess it that it will be around that time.

In other news- I got into Lake Washington's RN program! Although Seattle Central is my first choice, 'tis nice that somebody wants me.

Congrats on being accepted into Lake Wa. program. Why do you want to get in to SCCC's program instead of LWT's program? Is the former better than the latter?

Not necessarily. My main deciding factor is location- I've lived in Seattle for four years (just graduated from UW) and I can't imagine moving to the suburbs just yet. It would be too expensive in both time and money to commute that far.

Does anybody know the number of students that are being accepted:banghead:for this fall session at SCCC:confused:

Also, I know that SCCC has students do clinicals on Pill Hill, which has many different types of clinics. I haven't heard much about LWTC but I know that they have only been around for less than 5 years, so I would prefer to join a more... settled program.

Yeah, I can definately understand the commute thing. Why didn't you apply for UW's BSN or accelerated BSN programs?

I just handed UW a lot of money for my first 4-year degrees, and I won't qualify for any scholarships/grants through UW due to having a previous degree. I will apply to the accelerated program in October, but for this year's deadline I hadn't had any recent healthcare experience and did not feel like a strong enough candidate in that regard.

Yeah i just dropped it off at the post office in the morning. The reason I think there will be less applicants is because I went to the last info sesh before the application due date and she said that usually the last one is packed and she was baffled that there were only about 15 people there - most of whom we discovered couldn't even apply this year because they didn't meet the new requirements. I'm not really sure if I have a first choice - it's hard finding a legit source that can actually weigh one program versus another. I think if I get in to more than one program then I will just ask current students what they think of their program and go from there. Other than hearing that Shoreline had a really good program (which I didn't apply to) I haven't heard any concrete statements about the other schools, have you?

You can look up the nclex pass rates for all the schools in Wa. state @ www.doh.wa.gov. For me, a consistently high pass rate sounds like a good school. If I'm not mistaken, the NLNAC will put a school on probation if they are under the nat'l average. Last year the nat'l avg for US educated 1st time test takers from an ADN program was 86.49%,

BSN= 88.69% and diploma RN was 89.66% (does this say something about the diploma nursing schools, hmmmm).

SCCC nclex pass rate in 2009 was 100% and 94% in 2010.

Thanks for the information, wazeout. Looks like it's much higher than the average. Now I really hope we all get into the school! I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear anything. Good or bad.

Has anyone heard back from central yet? Man!! I am going freaking crazy over hear with anticipation. It's the only school that I applied to this year. God I hope I get in, because time and money is running short, and I'd have to wait a whole year to re-apply to other schools close to me.

Sadly, I haven't heard anything yet. I bet we'll hear by the end of the month but hopefully sooner. I tried calling the office but the nursing contact is impossible to track down. I guess we'll just have to continue waiting it out... but seriously, if I hear anything, I'll let you know!
