New Grad Program, Fort Lewis

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hi everyone,

This December I will be graduating with my BSN and am looking for a new grad RN program or nurse residency program. I'm currently in California with the potential to be stationed at Fort Lewis with my husband. I'm unfamiliar with geography and locations of the hospitals in relation to Fort Lewis, along with any new grad RN programs in Washington. I am willing to commute out of my way. Please let me know if you have any information.

Thanks

I can't speak to new grad programs (I think Tokmon? might know better), but some of the hospitals that are off base and nearby are going to be in Tacoma (Tacoma General, St Joseph, Mary Bridge Children's) and Olympia (St Pete's is the bigger/higher level of two in town). I think Good Samaritan is somewhere nearby, near Tacoma maybe. There are probably a few more in the area. I would start looking at those and see if they offer what you are looking for, though.

If you're living on base, you probably won't want to go much farther than any of those. Possibly Seattle, but it will be a rough commute.

Good luck on your relocation. It is beautiful out here.

The hospitals around Lewis are swamped with new grads from what I hear from my friends working up there and base hospitals do not hire new grads very often into the GS ranks. Most new grad residencies anywhere up in the NW get hundreds of BSN apps...I am serious. Just talked to a WA nurisng recruiter a few days ago and it is difficult!

Look into LTC or clinic nursing too because you are going to have a rough time finding a job to be honest and Seattle is a TOUGH drive in the morning....

That's the crappy part about the military..it thrusts you into unknown places that have bad outlooks for new grads...

You might try Madigan Army Medical Center. It is actually on the Base.

She won't get anywhere there as a new grad unless she has inside connections.
