Does anyone work at UW Medical Center or Swedish in Seattle?

Hello

I'm going to be moving from southern California to Seattle next summer and I'm going to be looking for a job. It's been my dream to work with organ transplant patients, so I'm looking at either UW Medical Center or Swedish Hospital in Seattle. Is it hard to get a job at either of these places? How is working for either of these? I also wanted to see if anyone would like me to put their name on my application so they could get a referral bonus. Thanks!

Specializes in Float Pool, acute care, management/leadership.

I work at UWMC as an aide and the facility is great, in my opinion. The staff is amazing as well and the benefits are fantastic. UWMC performed the first heart-lung transplant in the Seattle area a couple years ago.

Recently, I read an article on transplant too. Here's what it said about UWMC:

UW Medical Center is an experienced pioneer in transplantation. The medical center's transplant program was founded in 1959. The first kidney transplant in the region took place at UWMC in 1968; first heart transplant in 1985; first liver transplant in 1990; first pancreas-only transplant in 1991; and first lung transplant in 1992. The medical center has the only lung transplant program in the Pacific Northwest and is one of the largest in the United States.

One-year survival rates for heart, lung and kidney transplants performed at UWMC are well above national averages at 87 percent, 78.5 percent and 99.44 percent, respectively.

I also work at UWMC (on the Phlebotomy service). We see a lot of transplant patients who absolutely love the program at UW, and many of them were at other centers across the nation before coming to UW. They are also doing heart/lung transplants now.
