Georgetown Accelerated BSN hopefuls -- fall 2013

U.S.A. Washington DC

Hey -- anyone else applying to GU Fall of 2013? :)

Agony.

I hate to admit it, but I am 'nervous eating' a piece of caking right now.

Ha. I'm trying to manage through individual student conferences right now, and I have a grading all-nighter ahead. If I get bad news, I hope it's not today. But, if you don't get in, I will lose all faith in humanity. You are a superb candidate. From a professor's perspective, I would select you in a heartbeat. (Like the cardiac reference? Nervous nursing humor.)

Haha, you are too nice! I just noticed that I failed to proof read my last post. As an English teacher, you probably should have lost all faith in humanity when you saw that I claimed to be eating a piece of "caking." ;)

Grading all-nighters do not sound fun. However, I can't help hoping we hear today, for better or worse. I am going to be blind from over-checking my email if this goes on too much longer.

Ha ha. I actually didn't notice the "caking" error, which confirms that I am due for a career change. I keep checking my e-mail, too. My guess is that they would e-mail decisions later on in the day or after business hours. That reduces phone calls about the decisions; I'm sure they don't like delivering bad news and they want to minimize repercussions. I know I do that. I hand out students' graded papers at the end of class so I can leave immediately. I hate seeing a student get upset over a bad grade. I also don't want students arguing about a grade during class, which is what happened to me yesterday...

Yes, I think you're probably right. Nevertheless, there is a small and irrational part of me that feels as though it's not going to happen today if it hasn't happened yet.

I think the department monitors our e-mail activity as a criterion for making admission decisions. If we check our e-mail more than 10 times in three hours, we're classified as neurotic and automatically rejected. After all, WHC doesn't have a psych ward.

I couldnt agree more!!! I have literally just watched my email all day (I swear living social has increased their messages 10 fold today! sick joke!!). It seems like we all took "a couple days after the 15th" quite literally! GAHHH!

I used to do the same thing with my students as well... Hand out the grade and run out the door, and pedal away quickly on my bike before they could catch up to me!

I really hope we find out today or tomorrow though a part of me tells me they will wait til the end of the day Friday so that people cannot call to ask question until Monday.

Ahhh, I am dying. Also, I have to give a response to GW by Friday, but Georgetown is my first choice.

Oh, that's so tough! It seems like Georgetown notifies much later than most nursing schools.

Yes. I already have a deposit at Marymount, and I also got into Shady Grove. I'm getting nervous, though, that I'll be forced to respond to those schools before I hear back about the WHC scholarship. I can totally see myself working there, and it would be a big bummer to put a deposit down somewhere else and then find out I got the scholarship.

Anyways, it's 5:00 o'clock. I am guessing it's reasonable to give up hope for today.

I wouldn't give up just yet. These situations can linger past business hours because faculty aren't available during the day. I'm sorry about that deposit situation. It seems like there should be a more centralized time frame for nursing schools to accept or reject students. I guess you can hold on to one positive: many nursing schools want you, and that's a strong indicator that you are a top candidate for Georgetown and the scholarship.
