What's up with the RED TAPE for RN new grads???

it's so frustrating to apply for jobs in the hampton roads area only to be rejected and ignored over and over again. i'm already a licensed rn and i've submitted application after application everywhere!!! it's even more frustrating when i see numerous rn positions openings and they all say no new grads!!! what is up with that? i understand training may take longer, but how are we, the new grads suppose to get the "experience" we so desperately need if no one wants to give us a chance? :crying2::crying2::crying2:

to hiring nurse managers, why not take a risk on the new grads?! we're not incompetent by any means... those of us who have passed our boards are capable legally. how do get pass the red tape???????????

My husband and I are relocating to Ft. Belvoir, VA in a few weeks (he's military), and I am NOT looking forward to the rejections I am anticipating. I just graduated from nursing school here in GA, and almost everyone in my class had a job even before taking NCLEX (of course it all pended on passing NCLEX). So, this move is going to be rough! Wish new RNs weren't looked down upon so much. After all, didn't all the experienced nurses have to start as a new grad at some point?! I'm hoping I'll be able to get something, but I am definitely not expecting my dream job. It is just so frustrating to see everyone in my class get a job so easily here in a more rural area when I am sitting here waiting to move and hoping I'll be able to find anything.

There are three big problems for new grads in Hampton Roads:

1. There are loads of nursing programs churning out a crop of new grads every few weeks, so there is a lot of competition for slots.

2. It's a military community, so besides all the home-grown new grads, you have yet more new grads moving to the area as a result of their spouse/family getting orders to HR.

3. The two largest hospital chains (Bon Secours and Sentara) have their own nursing schools and so when they're hiring, their new graduates often get preference before they consider other new grads. I got that straight from the nurse recruiter's mouth during my own new grad search.

Unfortunately I don't have answers to fix any of these problems...except to just keep applying and trying anywhere and everywhere you can.
