I know that they are going to tell us what we need to bring and have when we start, but I was just wondering other than :crying2:tissues and :yawn:coffee and patience, what were some of the things that was a nesscessity to survival as a nursing student. I have already started reading the Fundamentals of Nursing, as I was told that that class was a make it or break it class.

Thanks for the input,

Nursing Student Starting in Jan/2010

So Im starting my third week of nursing school and i just wanted to add some other things that i am using that i think is a must:

-highlighters!! Highlight everything!!!!

-little sticky notes, all sizes to mark out which skills for what week and to tab out chapters that you will study(out of a thousand page book its incredibly hard to find a specific chapter)

-calenders everywhere with all the dates of things due!! its a must, because you will lose your mind and forget with everything spinning by.

- the nursing student section on this website!! WOWWWEEEE does it help. Thanks a lot to daytonite wow, i just love to sit and read everything she says!

-free area in the kitchen, computer room and living room to spread out books and sit and study! I have officially taken over the whole house with my books, i sometimes want to not study but when i move from room to room and i see the books staring at me, I remember that i have only 61 more weeks till capping/pinning!!

and lastly for me, MY HUBBIE, he just came back from iraq and god is it nice to come home to him cooking or cleaning up the house. That shoulder at the end of the day to cry on or be just snuggled inside his arms makes everything that much more bearable!!

Don't forget "me time", if you don't take time for yourself (and family) you will suffer, family will withdraw support and blame school for your change. It doesn't have to be every day or every week, but set limits and stick to them. I found myself miserable, regretful, and struggling due much to my approach of "this is my job and I need to spend 40+ hours/per week at it." Reality was my comprehension and mood in general were increased when I cut my study hours and took time for myself. Preread (skim) prior to class then focus your studying on what is on the syllabus and discussed in class. And for me ... ABSOLUTELY NO STUDYING THE DAY BEFORE OR MORNING OF A TEST.

Keep all of these lessons in mind, ask questions, and enjoy the investment.
