Sentara's Nursing School

I've applied to Senatara's Nursing School and should be starting this January. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has gone through their RN program. It has been really difficult for me to pick a school. I'm leaning towards Sentara because I already have a BA from ODU(1993). At age 35, I don't have a lot of time for picking the wrong path to RN :o Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am currently an RN student at Sentara. I have just completed my first year and I think they have a great program. Like any program though, it has it's kinks that need to be worked out. lack of communication between staff and between students in my largest gripe. I too had to weigh my options on which school to attend. ODU has nice program also, however you do not get nearly half the clinical experience that you do at Sentara. We begin clinicals our first semester. Feel free to e-mail me with more questions. Good luck in the search.

Hi Cassie. Thanks for the info. I feel better actually hearing form someone who is currently in the program. I am excited that your first year is done--way to go! I don't know if there is much interaction between classes that started at different semesters, but I'll be looking for your name to say hello. I won't pester you with too many questions right now as I know you must be really busy and I've yet to be offically accepted(the counselor told me I would be when I met with her after the NET, but you never know). I graduated from the old Norfolk General Hospital SON in 1975. If that is still a diploma program, run away fast. Get a BSN somewhere. You are right. You will get lots of clinical experience. That's mostly what you will get. And you will never be allowed to move into management these days with a diploma in nursing. Since 1975, I went back to school and received a BSN and MSN. I can't tell you how eyeopening those experiences were compared to the diploma program. Diploma programs that are still open are kept open by the supporting hospitals so the graduates can staff the hospital. I was amazed to hear that the system was still supporting a diploma nursing program.

Hey there everyone!

I have just moved to Norfolk and have recently applied to Sentara's nursing school. I take the pre-admission test on Tuesday. Will they tell me if i got in after the test? I read somthing about an interview but wasn't sure. I hope to start this August.

Anyone already in the program have any pointers on the interview or the test? It would be greatly appreciated.
