Sentara LPNs?

U.S.A. Virginia

Hey everyone, I will be graduating next week as a PN and have been applying to jobs in the area. Im really interested in working in a hospital and applied to a LPN position at Sentara VB general on a med surg floor. I received a response today and my question to everyone is, have you worked for sentara hospitals and if so, how did you feel about the experience? What are the ups and downs of the company? what is the nurse to patient ratio? Any info would be greatly appreciated, im supposed to meet with someone at the hospital in a few days but want to be prepared :)

Hey D, congratulations!!!! I graduated last April and have been working in long-term care. Some spots just opened up on 4W and I will be starting Jan 8th. We did most of our clinicals there. The ratio is 1:6. Sometimes, they had a lack of CNA's or NCP's so the nurses also had to do daily ADL's. That can make it a little difficult at times. That can happen anywhere you go though. I think the only downfall is they pay a little lower than other facilities. But it is state of the art, everything you need will be at your fingertips, and it is so neat and clean. The code ratio is very low, and everyone is soo helpful. They provide proper training on iv's, lab draws, and pharm so you can feel a little prepared. My friend works there and she hasn't had a day yet that she didn't enjoy. Good luck to you!!!! -L

Thanks so much for your response! I actually had my interview today it went great and I also will be starting Jan 8th on 4w lol I guess well see each other. Did they tell u anything about the shift differential bc the pay I was offered is excellent for a new hospital LPN in this area, I want to work evenings bc of the shift differential. 17$ is what I was quoted and Ill take that with a big smile on my face- thats almost twice as much as I make at my current job(not nursing related). Are u starting orientation on the 8th? I am, Im still unsure of what it consists of though, I think she said something along the lines of 2 days of orientation and then 2 weeks of classes? Do i have that right? Thanks again for the response Im so excited!!!! See you at work =)

sorry posted twice

Dara757,

I was just wondering what school you attened and how long did it take for you to get your LPN.

I wanted to apply to the Sentara in Williamsburg (LPN) If they still have an opening when I graduate that is. Let me know what you think. The one in williamsburg is close to my house so I am praying it works out and they hire new grads.

Good luck!!
