Anyone on this board attending ODU school of nursing? If so, please share your experience(s). I am considering ODU because I AM GOING TO BE A NURSE...EVEN IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO!! And I want to know what it's the program is like. I am torn between NSU and ODU. I've received my B.A and M.A from NSU so I want a different institutional experience ;)

Please comment

I graduated from ODU over 12 years ago. Sorry I can't help you. I think the program has been revamped since my time there.

Thanks for your input! From what I've "heard" the program is really good and the department has been revitalized but I'm still unsure.

Well, thanks again

From the literature that I have gotten, they seem to have really advanced the basic lab set up and even the graduate programs. The technology building was being rebuilt the last time I was on campus. So that is a good thing. I can't even remember if there were any real grad programs when I was there, now there are a few. Have you gone on campus and spoken to anyone about the program? I know it is summer vacation but the instructors should have office hours during the summer.

Hi I attended ODU but just transferred over to Sentara b/c I couldn't meet ODU standards and am not ready for a BSN. I took my pre-reqs there for 2 years and I think your GPA has to be like a 3.3 and it is very competitive to get in. You should contact Sandra Breeden @ [email protected] She is the one in charge and the one that was my advisors. The school of nursing is located behind the building where you go to for financial aid and registar. Sorry that I don't know much since I am kinda like a ODU dropout but hope it helps. Also if u are choosing between ODU and NSU, choose ODU b/c their pass rates are way higher than NSU (ODU is in the high 90's while NSU is in the 70's) http://hs.odu.edu/nursing/ - this is their website if you need it.

Capri, thank you so much for your input! When you said that you couldn't meet ODU standards what do you mean? I am not trying to be "nosey" or get in your business but I want to know what I'll be up against at the University.

Also, thanks for Mrs. Breeden's contact information, I plan to contact her immediately for I have so many questions.

Basically, my G.P.A wasn't in the ball park. It is very competitive and they take the people with the highest G.P.A. When I talked to Mrs. Breeden she made it seem like I could get in if I worked a lil bit harder. I will say that your average should be like 3.4 and you should have like a 4.0 in your sciences. You need letters of recommendations and everything. But I don't know for sure b/c I transferred to Sentara School of Health Professions (I start next week in the RN program) I took my pre-reqs at ODU (2 years) which includes Statistics, Chemistry, A&P, music, newpage, english, english comp., bacteriology, sociology, psychology, orientantion, and I can't remember if I forgot something. Also I started college with a newborn baby fresh out of high school and wasn't able to concentrate and plus I need a career now so that I can take care of my son. I can always go back and pursue my degree when I can concentrate. Make sure you e-mail the college of health sciences or visit the site that I gave you to get more info on it b/c like I said before I don't really know the steps to get in.

Hope this helps,
