Need help getting HR to return calls

Has anyone else had a difficult time with HR departments not returning your calls? How long does it normally take to connect with HR to get an interview?

My daughter has started applying for jobs online as a May 2005 grad. One hospital in the Hampton Roads area called several times within a few days of application and she has interviews in several departments in March. Her preference, however, is northern VA or DC as she lives in that area, but they seem to be much slower to respond. One hospital called when she was in class and left a message, but the HR Dept. has not called back despite her leaving several messages.

Advice and encouragement needed here to pass along! Thanks.

just call them back and say hey did you forget about me? you know.. shows determination and all. one of my classmates did that with a job.. she just kept calling them back and saying hey im still here etc.. and she was hired eventually..lol i always get to know the directors at like career fairs it's always better that way i think. Or email the directors of that department you want in a formal letter and tell them you are interested in applying for this such and such job and how you found out and things you liked about the hospital and just makes them know that you have looked into things and are very interested...

Advice from a soon to be new grad to a soon to be new grad :0)

I wish I could say that this was the exception to the rule.. however, HR departments aren't very courteous... My advice would be for your daughter to call them EVERY DAY until she gets some type of response... i know that there are several LARGE hospitals in NOVA... I work for the largest... but i know there are a lot of people who have complained about the lack of response from the HR dept....

it's good to be king i suppose :wink2:

Thanks, NICUFaithRN. She had been calling every other day, and actually caught the person at her desk one time! 3 interviews were set up at that hospital the same week, so persistence does pay off. (I see you work for the largest hospital in NOVA which, if my guess is right, is the same one.) She actually had 9 interviews over spring break and received 5 offers on the spot from other hospitals. So all's well that ends well.
