Hospitals hiring in Virginia

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Good afternoon! I am a new RN and was wondering what hospitals are hiring in the state.

I am looking at a geographic area from Richmond to Virginia Beach. I know many hospitals ARE NOT hiring new RN's.

Does anyone know if there are any in this demographic region who are hiring??

Much thanks!! Epona :nurse:

Try Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington VA. You could also try Potomac Hospital and PrinceWilliam Hospital in Prince William County.

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

Forget Hampton Roads all the way up to Williamsburg: the hospitals are not hiring new grads right now...ask me how I know ;)

Someone at one of the hospitals that I talked to did tell me that northern VA (Fairfax, Arlington, etc.) is offering more opportunities for new grads.

Specializes in Psychiatric Nurse.

...don't forget about hampton roads!!!...

while it is always good to network, using the allnurses.com website and other sources, never rely upon "word of mouth" only to find a job. you will lose out on many opportunities if you do so.

i can't speak for any other hospitals in the hampton roads area; but the sentara health care system is currently hiring. there are at least 5 positions online for new grad/no experience rns!!! in particular, from memory, i know that sentara leigh has one or two jobs posted. within the job description you will see, "experience: licensure: currently licensed to practice as an rn by the commonwealth of virginia, or a recognized compact state, or eligible for new graduates."

i have provided the allnurses.com website with the the agape center website on several occasions. http://www.theagapecenter.com/hospitals/ this is a website that lists hospitals in all 50 states, canada and the virgin islands. use this site to search (by state) and then "click" on each link of interest and you will be reverted to that hospital's home page. this website makes the search process so much easier.

on your own, you should always peruse a facilities job search web page; because the employment market changes from day-to-day. new job openings are being added/updated every day.

best of luck to you in your search for your first job as an new grad rn!!!

it's not merely "word of mouth": i've spoken the to sentara recruiter many times since april. she knows me pretty well by now :)

the sentara recruiter was blunt and said they place their own school's graduates first, then they consider their own employees, then there's a few hundred applications after that from both new graduates and experienced nurses they go through. so unless you have an kick-butt application that can really (really!) stand out from the masses and/or know someone on the inside, you're not going to do very well here even though the listing says "or eligible new graduates." in fact, the suggestion about northern va came from a sentara employee in hr.

chesapeake isn't hiring gns now either, neither is riverside. probably similar with chkd, but their recruiter is a lot harder to get a hold of. those are the ones i've dealt with.

i don't mean to discourage epona or anyone from trying when i say "forget hampton roads". definitely double-check with facilities as things change rapidly and what's true today may not be true tomorrow. but the reality (right from the recruiters' mouths) is that getting hired as a gn here today is an uphill battle. if you don't live here already, don't relocate here just because slh has a couple of postings saying they'll consider new grads...because the odds are nowhere near as good as they sound :( get the job first, then move here.

You can the Virginia Workforce website it has a listing of all jobs in virginia. Just pick your area and then type in the keywords RN/LPN and a long listing of jobs will appear. It's a really good site.

WOW! Thanks everybody!!! GREAT INFO. here!! Yes... I have been trying to get a job here since DECEMBER. I planned WAY AHEAD. The deal I got was 'you don't have a license yet. call us when you do.' I have been in touch myself with all the recruiters over the months and they know me well too!! HA! Well I just passed my boards within the week so now I am diligently following up.

A dear friend who is the CEO of a hospital network in West VA said he would get me a job out there, but I am married and would have to move out there. Ugh. :uhoh21: So I am trying like mad to land something here. THANKS EVERYONE! Let's keep in touch and I will keep you posted!

Have a good weekend! E :nurse:

look at prince william hospital. Strong exerienced nurses and on the way to magnet. :yeah:
