Any info on Roanoke/Salem???

U.S.A. Virginia

Hi there everyone!

I am currently working as a cardiac nurse in Maryland and am looking to relocate to the area. I lived in Blacksburg, VA for 10 years and graduated from Virginia Tech so I am quite familiar with the area but not so much the hospitals.

Does anyone have any information re: working conditions, pay, etc. at the area hospitals? I am most interested in learning more about Carilion and the Salem VA.

PLEASE PASS ON ANY INFO!!!!!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH! :nuke::nuke::nuke:

I don't want to claim to be an expert in the matter- I've lived in the area for about 2 years now, but I'll gladly tell you what I know. There are mainly two choices here- either Carilion or HCA. Carilion runs most of the area hospitals- Roanoke Community and Memorial, Franklin, Giles, NRV, Stonewall Jackson, and a few others. HCA's biggest hospital in the area is Lewis-Gale, but they also have Montgomery Regional and Pulaski. I've heard good things about Lewis-Gale, not so much about other HCA facilities. Carilion is, from what I can tell, a reasonable place to work. I just started (new grad) and they're very customer service focused, but from my understanding, so is everyone else. There's definitely plenty of jobs in the region, and I think it's a good place to be. Check out the websites for Carilion and HCA, and let me know if you have any more questions- I'll help with what I can!

I just left Carilion to attend grad school after working there for nine years. Yes, they are very customer service oriented but that is the norm. I work at a hospital part time in NC now & I can honestly say that Carilion was PARADISE in comparison. Better staffing, better equipment, better treated as a nurse. Roanoke Memorial had a small hospital feel, a personal more friendly experience but yet is a large level one trauma center where you can do & learn tons of stuff. I loved working for Carilion. Can you tell I miss Roanoke?

Hello, I am currently living in Alabama and moving back up to Roanoke area. I just came back from there and went on two job interviews. I am a new graduate nurse and the starting salary at Lewis Gale was 18.90.. I accepted a job at the VA hospital there in Salem where the Salary starts at 20.00 and some odd change. weekend diff pay is 25% for days and 35% for night weekends. Week day nights are 10% more. Plus the benefits are excellent. Just some info that might help you out.

Hello...I am looking into a couple of jobs at the VA and was wondering if you still work there, and if so if I could ask you a couple of things?? If you dont mind could you either respond back to naturelvr, or my email [email protected]? I'd greatly appreciate your time.

Hi,

I am a newly graduate nurse who's about to have an interview at the Cairlion Clinic in Va next week. Do you know what questions will be asked of me??? Anyone here who had an interview with Carilion Clinic. I really want to get the job.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Paolo

Hello,

I am new graduate nurse hoping to relocate from CA to VA. I have an interview next week for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital! I have been trying to get salary information though on what new grads are paid in that area. I can't seem to find what starting pay is? Any info would be great!!

Specializes in Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergy.

When did you apply, and when did they call you for an interview?

Do you already have a VA license?

I applied early December and they called for an interview about a week later! Yes I already have a VA license so I am sure that helped.

CA_RN..just curious is you were offered the job at Carilion? If so, what floor and what shift?
