Availability of UTA Courses: Spring 2013

  1. 0 Has anybody else noticed that many courses are not available until February 25, 2012? I have only three courses left to complete until graduation, Nursing Research, Care of the Older Adult, and the Capstone course. However, Nursing Research and Care of the Older Adult are not available until the end of February, delaying my graduation a little bit. Anybody else having similar issues?

Yes, I've noticed. I wanted to take courses in a certain order, but can't now because not all of the classes are offered in every 5-week segment. I have no idea why not, but I guess we just have to live with it. I would be upset if I were you, commonsense.

I just finished Holistic care of the older adult, which I thought was quite easy; maybe you could take that along w/ research in Feb so you won't lose too much time.

This irritated me too. I had a plan for how I was going to take my classess, and I couldn't because of this. I am worried that this is going to delay me finishing. I had plenty of other choices so I just picked something, but if I was almost done and did have many classess left it would have been a problem.

    Yeah,

I'm sure a lot of people are not happy. Wish they would have let us know earlier so we could make different plans.

That's what I'm planning on doing ScarletFire. I've been doubling up on classes throughout the entire program, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I just hate having to 2.5 month off of school simply because classes are not available. At least I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi! I spoke with my Academic Advisor and she said the final class schedule has not been determine yet (which seems odd). If you are having problems with signing up for classes let ur AA know, and maybe they can sign you up.

I've already spoken to my advisor, she gave me the same answer. I'll probably just wait and hope for the best.

The 2013 class schedule is not finalized yet???!?!?! That is ridiculous. It will be 2013 in a few weeks. Unbelievable.

Did you get the impression from your AA that additional classes may still be offered? If so, maybe I'll wait to register until they get their act together.

    Commonsense,
let me know if you have any questions re: Holistic once you get in it. I can offer some tips that may help.

ScarletFire, I'll take any tips you can provide about Holistic Care of Older Adults. I'm hoping I can take it earlier than February, but that remains to be seen. If you have any questions about any other classes just let me know, I've taken everything but Holistic Care Of Older Adults, Nursing Research, and the Capstone Course.

    Hi,

Yes, I am happy to give you the full rundown on Holistic. Since it's several months away for you, I'll give you a brief overview now and then more detail when you are actually in it because it will make more sense.

There are video lectures plus readings and weekly quizzes which are due early each Monday morning....oh, and of course, a DB with an original post and replies to 2 of your classmates. The first post is due on each Tuesday. Quizzes weren't too horrible; more on them later. Assignments included a paper on Life Review in which you have to find and interview a senior citizen >70 years of age and ask him/her a list of questions. This person cannot be a relative. I had a little trouble finding someone, but eventually did, so if you don't have a person who immediately comes to mind, you may want to think about this now while you have time. You actually have to have the person sign a consent form which has to be scanned and submitted as part of the assignment.

As I said, I'll give more details for you next Feb or whenever you take it.

I'm gearing up for Health Assessment in Jan and I am aware that it is going to be awful, but I want to get it out of the way. I've heard all the stories about it from some of the posts, so I'm expecting the worst. I'm deliberately taking it alone as was suggested by everyone here on allnurses.

    I'll be in touch.

    commonsense,
Holistic Care of Older Adult is somewhat similar to Health Promotion across the Lifespan. About the same work load as that course. Pretty simple and straightforward. I have Leadership & Management in April, cannot take Research in February because I will not be finished with Stats that starts in January. Wish they would offer all classes, like the general ed stuff, each 5 weeks.

    ScarletFire,
Health Assessment is not a hard course, just very time consuming. It is extremely detailed and you will see everything you just did in Med Term.

I noticed the late start to the classes too, and I'm also frustrated that they can't over every (or at least most) classes every 5 weeks like they do Capstone.

I'm also waiting on three more classes (Vulnerable Populations, Research and Capstone) and had been hoping to finish up by May...but given that plus some real-life events I'll be dealing with, I've reconciled myself to a July completion date. Oh well.

    Hi Amy,

good to hear from you. After holistic ended, I still had Med Term and US Gov the following week to complete, but those are finally over now. Feels strange (but good) to have a little reprieve from school. I guess you only had papers to complete for Brit Lit w/o any final exam. I think you had much more to do than I did during the last 8-week segment.

So, yeah, I'm taking Assessment in Jan as you know. I'll probably be asking you questions along the way. I'll PM you, if that's ok.

I was hoping we would be taking the same classes after that, but unless they offer more classes, I don't think we will be. I think you still need Research, Leadership, Vulnerable, and Capstone, is that correct? And, both Hist I and II? I need Hist II only. I've heard that is a lot of work, so I'm not sure when to fit that in.

Hope you are having a relaxing break. Send me a PM when you can.
