The lowest contract I have seen is 8 weeks. I also hear of strike nursing that does at least 2 weeks...anyone know any companies that offer short high paying contracts? I am an L&D nurse.

If you any ideas for nursing income on the side....I wrote an ebook. I can't post it, but feel free to message me!

Most strikes cancel. Most of the ones that don't cancel are 2, 3, or 5 days. Sometimes the hospital will lock out strikers for a few days more depending on their own strategy and what strike insurance covers. I'm not going to list strike agencies here: of you want to find out more, check out MobileRN (formerly scab.org). I think a nursing forum like this one should support nurses, not explore ways to try to keep fellow nurses, wages, and safe staffing down for personal benefit. In any case, strikes are too hit and miss - you will make more money by doing regular travel.

Rapid response companies have short, high paying contracts, typically 8 weeks with 48 hours a week guaranteed but there are shorter contracts. The biggest agency for rapid response is Fastaff. On Assignment used to be next, but they have gone through some hard times during the recession and changed ownership. I think they are more regular travel than rapid response now. Nurse Choice, an American Mobile subsidiary agency, also focuses on rapid response. Cross Country shut down their rapid response agency CRU48. Most every agency will get rapid response orders but it is not steady work outside of Fastaff or Nurse Choice.

Other than EMR changeovers (like Epic) which require rapid response size mobilizations, rapid response contracts are usually more difficult than regular travel contracts. They are often at troubled hospitals and you will earn your money. If you have never traveled before, I would recommend getting your feet wet on a regular travel contract first. L&D will pay high on regular contracts.

I'm currently doing a 4 week assignment with Aureus Medical. They have 4-13 week assignments.
