hi i am new this forum and i have been reading a lot of the posts. i have decided to start traveling and i am really interested in it. my hope is to start in may i have contacted a couple of agencies from popular reviews. however i still have some questions. i am single 26y.o female specialty in medsurg.

will i have a problem finding a job in my field?

what locations do you guys recommend for a first timer and a single woman? i am looking for a place that is friendly and out going. i currently live in tx.

i had a full time job and i am currently prn. i would like to take time off before traveling. do you guys recommend that? ( i have some money saved up already)

i hate to sound like a robot or picky but i would really like as much input as possible.

I searched on my old trav company website and I found 161 med-surg jobs so you should be okay. I do not know how long you have been a nurse though, or how long it has been since you worked full time-that can be a factor with some hospitals accepting you.

If you want to start in May you have lots of things to do! Aside from licensure stuff, there is all the competency checklists and testing that you need to do with whatever agency you go with.

Many people go somewhere fairly close to home for their first assignment so that is an idea...other than that pick a location you like that you would like to visit and has a job open! As for what it will be like at the hosp, there is no guarantee it will be friendly...as for the area that will be up to you! You can always also choose on things you like to do, outdoor activities? museums? weather?

sure some people take time off, it all depends on what the start dates are for the assignment and whether they can wait for you to get to work. remember that you also have to get where you will be going! You can always spend you first little bit looking around your new city too-although your trav agency won't pay your housing unless you are working that week. it's why I usually tried to start work on a thursday! so i had the first part of the week to get my bearings.

I'm on my first assignment, and I stayed three hours from home, and glad I did. I work my three 12's and head home. Just realize that you must be ready to hit the floor running. I'm in the ICU, and I had one day of orientation and was on my own due to the nurse shortage. They expect that of a traveler. Everybody has been friendly, helpful and they are very glad I"m there because mandation (although illegal) is a problem there, so I haven't gotten one attitude.
