:) Any one traveling that is 50 years plus? I have been in ICU 26 years. I'am thinking about traveling with Faststaff. My son lives in Sacremento Calif. I'am thinking about taking a travel assignment out there. Any advice?

Hey, YOU WILL LOVE IT!! It is scary at times, but it looks like you are going somewhere where you have family. I have been traveling for over 2.5 years, alone, AND LOVE IT! I am almost 48, and have met many of us who are close or at the "Denny's Senior Menu" age!:chuckle

Just make sure your contract has EVERYTHING in it that makes you feel secure: for me, that would be guaranteed hours, private housing, some one to contact at the agency for any problems 24/7, the rate you agreed on, the hours you agreed to (days, nocs, rotating, floating policy).

Your recruiter can make or break your traveling experience!;) Feel good about your interactions with her/him, that you can confront them if you need to, and not feel humilated.

Also, have a "stash of cash" for back up! There are hospitals lately that have been cancelling lately; not a lot, but with a cash reserve, IF ANYTHING HAPPENS, you, hopefully, won't feel so stressed!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU and HAPPY TRAILS!!!

Learn from your dog. Never pretend to be someone you're not.
:) :) Thank you for the advise. I'am going to do this. I'am really excited. I'am going to travel with fasstaff or columbine or travel nurse international, don't know which one yet. I really don't want to float. Thanks again. Shirley

I'm not 50 y/o yet but have been a Nurse 24 1/2 yrs. I am a Travel Nurse for about 3 years and love it!

I am in Florida until the new year and then I will be in California for probably 12 months.

If you need a change and you want maximum control of your life where you can plan out when you want to be off and have peace of mind knowing you will working for top dollar, this is the best way to do it.

When I decided to travel for the first time I interviewed about 6 agencies and after my second try I found one that suited me. I am with Preferred healthcare and I have found that you can negotiate for what you need. It is really working out great for me.
