I've been a nurse for 2.5 years. I've always been in L&D or Women's center. I feel fairly confidant about my skill level but also realize that there are areas i need assistance with such as procedures i've never done. I have worked in three hospitals since becoming a nurse and really enjoy where I work prn now. I think I would really love to do short term assignments because I dont want to stay in one place forever. The question I have is how much skill/experience do you need to travel and how do you learn the unit paperwork, charting, standing orders, procedures and where supplies are kept so quickly. I sure couldnt learn the charting that fast. Two days? wow!! I've been prn at my current facility for two months and still dont have all of the little details down consistently as far as charting. We use a combination of paper and computer charting and as i'm sure y'all know...theres soooo much charting to do!
