Canadian RN moving to california

Hi, I'm a RN in Canada moving to California to do travel nursing. I have my licence in Minnesota and I am looking to work in Southern California. I have applied for my licence to be transfered to California through Nursys. I got confused when I applied for my licence in California, because I noticed you need to send school transcripts, licence validation....I figure I didn't have to do that, since I have my visa screen with CGFNS and my licence with Minnesota?? I've tried calling the California board of nursing, but I can't get through. Also, how long does it take before you get your licence when transfering from Minnesota?

Thanks!!!:)

Love LA so far as I was not a fan of Houston at all. Soo so much happier here in california, it was definitely worth the long process of paperwork and waiting!

What school did you go to? I went to Humber and I'm also applying to California.

Thanks

I went to McGill. Cali is pretty strict on their education requirements for school. I sent my school the requirements so they could make sure they could send the proper breakdown

Did you call or email the registrar at your school as a heads up for the strict requirements?

Also did you take a perm job or travel contract in LA? I'm looking into San Francisco.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad your are enjoying Cali. A definite 180 degree change from Montreal

I had the email for the undergraduate secretary for the school of Nursing. I think it's better to speak directly to someone in the nursing school for clarification of course breakdown.

I am on a travel contract right now, I would like to eventually take a staff position but I'm not sure where I want to be yet. Also, I only want to work at a children's hospital so that limits choices. I was set on San Fran initially but then ended up in LA as the hospital I wanted didn't have travel positions. Personally, it was easier to take a travel contract first so that things like housing etc are taken care of, especially since coming from Canada with no credit history etc here. Cannot beat the weather! I'll especially be grateful come winter!

Hi, mack31 i also went to U of M in Winnipeg and I am in the process of applying for california license. Did you end up getting a license?

Hi! I'm also an RN from Alberta, passed my NCLEX and am waiting on my Visa screen... I'm hoping to work in California too. Are you working there now?? Are you with a travel company and which one if so? Did they help you get your SSN and TN visa? Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks :))

Hi

I was wondering if you remember how many hours of theory and clinical you had for obstetrics in your curriculum. My license was rejected because I was deficient in OB theory and clinical.

Hello, they rejected your license? Did you not take OB in university/college at all.

Did you already have a job offer?

Yea i did nut not enough hours for their liking

All three of my recruiters were surprised that it still wasnt enough OB hours.

Does anyone know how many hours are required for OB and pediatrics in California?
