california travel nursing questions

hi all. i've done some searching but still have questions..if it's already been asked and answered i apologize in advance...

i've been an rn-bsn in neurosurgery/neurology/med surg for about 14+ months on a high acuity unit.

i would like to travel to california, as my florida salary doesn't pay for my exorbitant student loans.

i've been in contact with the following companies: rnnetwork; agostini; fastaff; americanmobile and a few others.

i have been surprised at the relatively low hourly rates being offered. a fellow grad of mine started as a new rn in cali and made 40 bucks/h right away as a staff rn. i would expect travelers to make more, but i've been offered around 30 by several companies.

also. which companies are good in cali? which ones to avoid. what are you cali-travelers being paid by the hour? i'm looking for a company that will fly me out there for free, rather than reimburse me after the fact...so far only agostini and fastaff have offered to send me a plane ticket in the mail and fly me out there for free.

any tips, hints will be greatly appreciated.

I did a quick assisgnment in the Bay Area the later part of last year. You work 4 days a week versus 3. My pay after taxes was $ 1300 a week. Not bad money. Yes, your friend is right. A nurse with your level of experience would make high 30's to low 40's. Not including shift/weekend.You sound young and ambitious.Go for it.

thanks for the reply....what agency did you work for while in california?
