4 weeks notice

I have decided that I am def going to start traveling in March. I'm still waiting to get my CA licence (sent in all requirements Jan15 and applied for my temp as well). I was told by my recruiter that most hospitals want an experienced traveler and as we get closer to March, I should start thinking about traveling within MA.

Now I am just really scared to give my 4 weeks notice without having an assignment...what has everyone else done? Waited for an assignment then gave your noticed. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

That is awesome they were so sweet about everything! I am staying per diem at my place as well (hopefully)!

I was told that Ca. Was a walk through state. Also depending on the state you are licensed in it might be a compact state. My license is in CO. and it is a compact state .

I've been traveling for two years know and my wife loves the break . I have been an RN for 25 years and do Med/Surg ,Tele , and Onc . The thing I like best is you don't have to get involved in the politics . I also have a NY license . And am working on getting my WY , KS , Missouri license . There are a lot of openings in the non compact states . Good Luck in your new adventure .

California used to be a walkthrough state. It is not now.

Just an update for you guys! I officially have my first assignment! I'm going to Dallas Children's medical center working in the Ped ER! Its not California but it's the specialty that I wanted! Hopefully I'll be in Cali for my second assignment. I can't wait to just take off and enjoy the ride! Thanks for all your advice!

Congrats! Children's in Madera (California) has tons of pedi ER, but only in the winter. I think that is true of peds in general, lots of assignments in the winter, not as many in summer. I just happen to have a friend doing ER in Madera right now for the second winter in a row. If you can do adult ER, your peds skills will make you highly employable year round.

Were you able to do a full four weeks notice?

Yes I was...I even stayed an extra week....while they interviewed a traveler to replace me. So basically I gave them 5 weeks. As for adults...I don't know if I could do adult nursing....I'll take a pedi patient over an an adult any day! Lol

Ah yes, the stolen hubcap theory of traveler sustainability. If a few hubcaps are stolen, suddenly a market for hubcaps is created. Take a staff nurse away to travel, suddenly there is a position created for a traveler!
