UTHSCSA Accelerated BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi everybody! :)

I'm applying to UTHSCSA for Spring '14 (Accelerated Program). Who else is applying to the program??

Has anyone else taken the TEAs Exam yet? I took mine earlier today

:nailbiting:

So I have a few more questions for you Melissa1986 if you don't mind... So I was wondering if you have any advice as far as places to live nearby, I don't know if this would pertain to you in case you are a S.A. native but I would be coming from out of town. Also what are some options that maybe you went through when having to pay for the program. I haven't really seen that much on how much tuition is and just know that they offer financial aid and scholarships? And it's ok if you don't want to answer in case it's kind of personal. And at rcarloaz206 I didn't have issues getting the combo series but i'm in a different city so... yeah. good luck on finding them.

There are a lot of apartments near school, so you shouldn't have trouble finding something. The one bedrooms are usually in the upper 500s to upper 600s per month depending on size, location, and amenities. I have been in San Antonio for several years, so I didn't have to deal with finding housing.

I was able to get enough federal student loans to cover tuition and fees, with a little left over to go towards bills/living expenses. Be aware, you will likely get more financial aid the first semester than you will get for the 3 remaining semesters. If you don't get much federal aid for whatever reason, check out CAL loans at HHLoans.com . If you are a Texas resident, in-state tuition comes out to a little more than $16,000 for all 4 semesters (I don't know the exact amount). You have to pay for your laptop out of pocket before orientation, but you can take your receipt to the financial aid office to get an additional loan amount disbursed to you to cover the cost.... I hope that helps.

I was able to find it through the RediClinic at HEB. I did have to request for the rapid schedule vs. the normal one that takes 6 months. Although I don't know about cost, since I was able to get it covered through my insurance.

Are you guys having problems finding the hepatitis a and b combo series?

Hello!

I will also be starting the program this May. I called the rediclinic but was told that they don't administer the accelerated Hep a&b. Where has everyone else gotten their accelerated hep combo?

I did the Hep A&B combo at my doctor's office. Check with a general physician's office, they should have it. Not sure if mine is the accelerated version but I have to come back next year to get my booster. I checked with the school and they said that is acceptable.

***Are any of you guys looking for a place to live? I am looking for an apartment/townhouse close to the school and would really like a roommate to share with. Rent would be cheaper too! I'm pretty easy going, clean, trustworthy, and a non-smoker. I don't have a pet but I like both cats and dogs as long as the shedding isn't bad.*** contact me if you want to rent a place together.

Yay so excited to meet all of y'all as school gets closer to being here!

Howdy y'all my name is Dan, been reading this read thread for while, excited to meet y'all in May. I even met a few of our class today in the CPR BLS class. Melissa1986 do you have an recommendations for first semester nursing students besides what you said earlier about the crowding being less in the summer and pathophysiology?

Also does this group have a Facebook page? If not would anybody be interested in me creating a Facebook group and posting the link here....

Hi Dan! Yeah I'd say go for it regarding the Facebook page:)

I just had a quick question, have any of y'all done the CPR certification through CPR Heart of Angels here?

Hi everyone!

I will be starting this program as well :) I am so excited to meet y'all!

Dan, the FB page sounds like a great idea.

I will also be starting the program in May! I'm excited to meet everyone! :)

Is anyone scheduled to do their BLS CPR class in the next few weeks? I'd love to try and schedule mine with someone on the thread. I'm super excited to meet everyone! I also think the Facebook group is a great idea!
