UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

Hello everyone, looks like this is the second thread that has been created. Here's a link to the first one:

https://allnurses.com/tx-nursing-programs/uthsc-h-spring-665579.html

Does anyone know how they look at "W's" I have 4 and was wondering if that is something that could keep me from getting accepted.

Has anyone applied yet?? taken the HESI??

Thank you so much @dee1388 is there anymore information that you can share with us

Well here I am!!! Got my rejection letter in the mail today :(

Hello dee1388 thanks for the wishes, unfortunately I did not get accepted... good luck!

Hi pRaYeRfuL! Here we go again I guess :uhoh3: So what is your plan now...you applying to only UT for Spring 2013? Do you have any classes still to take? I don't know about you but I am going out to drown my sorrows in a nice frosty pina colada and some nachos to take the edge off that rejection letter.

Hi stacymonique!!!!! Heck no, lesson learned, I will reapply to UT but I will not put all my eggs in one basket this time around. I am def going to put in applications to other schools. It was a last minute thing at the time so UT was the only one I applied to. I still have to take A&P 2 and CHEM but I am thinking about retaking a few courses to improve my GPA. It is a little depressing to be rejected, but at the beginning I never expect to be accepted. I am going to have to do research on other schools and application processes. So far I know that UTMB is pretty much the same and the last day to apply is June 15th for spring 2013... argh! I want to look at others in Houston and possibly other areas but that would be hard for me to do. (I have 2 kids) What is your plan?

What sucks is that UTHSC and UTMB don't have the same nursing exam...I would have to take the TEAS and apply before that deadline which is not going to happen. Have you taken it? I don't know anything about it but my A&P prof told me it was a little harder than the HESI, but she might have been speaking specifically about the A&P section. I am going to apply to just UTHSCH for the Spring and if I don't get in I will apply to the summer accelerated programs for both UTHSCH and UTMB...if nothing comes of any of that then I give up. I don't want to apply to the Spring semester at UTMB because I can't make that commute everyday and I don't want to apply to TWU at all because the program is so much longer and I don't want to spend another 4 years pursuing a second BS. I am 31, I just got married, and I would ideally like to get through a nursing program before starting a family.

For the rest of you on the forum, I just got a rejection letter from UT for the Fall 2012 semester and I am reapplying for Spring 2013. Here are my updated stats:

- pre-req GPA - 3.7

- science GPA - 3.75

- HESI - 97.6% (lowest section 96%)

- critical thinking - 830

- classes remaining - stats and devo:lifespan (taking during summer)

- previous BS in Biology from Texas A&M

Does anyone know when the deadline for notification of acceptance/rejection is for Spring 2013? I couldn't find it on the website.

Hi everyone!

I am new to the site. Reading all of you guys comments are kind of scary and make me really nervous... I plan on applying for the Sring 2013 session and Accelerated Summer 2013 session. I had a couple of friends who did the UT program and they made it sound like it was so simple to get in... I wanted to know if it is ok to start your application even if you are still taking pre-reqs and haven't taken your HESI. I still have A&P I and II to take along with microbiology.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi Kimbers2882. Sorry, didn't mean to worry you! I remember reading info from people that applied and didn't get in the semester before me and feeling the same way, but it helped me to not assume that my stats would get me in so when I wasn't accepted I wasn't surprised or devastated because people with better stats than me didn't get in either. I knew people that got in easily a year ago before they quit doing interviews, but I personally felt like not having an interview process hurt my chances. However, I think I figured out that what hurt me was my CT score...I think 830 is too low to be competitive so I will plan to take the HESI again before the application deadline.

As for your question, you can apply with 40 of the 60 prereq hours under your belt, including 8 of the 16 hours of science prereqs. If you still have API and II and Micro to take it sounds like you will not meet the requirements for science prereqs this semester unless you take at least one of those over the summer. You can then just keep sending in your transcripts as you finish additional classes. As for the HESI, you should apply before you take the test because the testing center will send your grades to the university directly, so the university needs to have a file on you started. Then you must take the exam before the application deadline. Sounds like you have a lot to do before September 1! I would also strongly advise taking at least API before attempting the HESI. I took it with only API and taught myself the rest of the material in a weekend made a good score.

Hope that helps!

@stacymonique and @kimbers2882 welcome to the thread i hope this is a year we get acception letters and can begin this nursing journey

@stacymonique and @prayerful, i am sorry the both of you got rejected. I will be applying to multiple schools this upcoming semester for Traditional and accelerated, i am more interested in accelerated programs that begin in January so i can be done sooner than later. But where ever i get into I will be greatful. I have a BS in Accounting but i still need 5-6 classes depending on what school i apply to. The courses i still need for UTHSC-Houston are sociology, lifespan, a&p2, micro, nutrition, and i might need philosophy(i need to go over my transcripts again to make sure about that one). I plan on taking most if not all of those courses this summer. Some other schools require chem2 as well so im debating on whether to take that or not.

Hi everyone! I am looking forward to the discussions that the Spring 2013 hopefuls will hold here. I am applying as well.

I currently attend Lone Star College Montgomery. I am enrolled in Chem, AP II, Phil, and KINE (First Aid & Saftey). Semester ends in 3 weeks!! :) All I have left to take for UTHSC is Microbiology. So I can apply with 3 of the 4 sciences completed.

Deadline for the Spring 2013 applicants is September 1st correct? I read up on other forums and we should know around the beginning of November if we are accepted or not. I am excited and optimistic!! UTHSC is my very first choice but I wont put all my eggs in one basket and will apply to other BSN programs. Judging by admissions of the past two semesters that I read on you never know what UTH is looking for and I don't want to think I'm a shoe in and get a rejection letter and have no school to go to!

Looking forward to sharing as much information as possible! Let the journey begin :)

Hi dsjt3. Yes the deadline is September 1st. I would agree not to put all your eggs in one basket not saying you would not get accepted, but it is better to have more choices in the event something does not go your way. Are you Taking KINE as an elective or as a required course(just curious), and have you yet to take the HESI. Good luck to you this application pool

I just submitted my application and called the school. They told me the decision will be mailed out around Nov 15.
