towns near dallas or houston va

U.S.A. Texas

I am a new grad who will be transferring to the Dallas or Houston VA within the next year. I am interested in the best places to stay if I want to work at the Houston or Dallas VA. I don't have to stay very close but if I could drive w/o too much traffic or take public transportation easily I would love to stay somewhere the commute is easy to these hospitals. I have not chose b/t the Dallas or Houston VA. I want a place with good schools and nice affodable homes (texas prop. taxes area a killer!) and small town feel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to become a Texan!

THe Temple, TX VA is the poster child for all VA's. IT has the best technology $$ can buy and is always at the front line of change when it comes to the federally run hospitals. Just food for thought

I live in New Mexico and not Texas so I can't help with the accommodations but I do work at a larger VA facility and I think you will enjoy the benefits. I am not familiar with the Temple VA but the Dallas VA is well-known in the VA system for being innovative. Most VAs are at the forefront of technology (not counting contracted facilities ran privately). Our charts are electronic so that I can access patient data from other VA hospitals, the meds are barcoded, etc. The benefits are also great compared to private sector facilities. Good luck and congratulations! ;)

I am currently working at the LR, AR VA and I really love it. So I defintely want to continue to work in the VA system.
