RN License endorsement to TX

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I've done my NCLEX-RN for NY state and am planning to endorse my license to Texas. Can someone help me on the proper directions that I should follow for this ? I've read some threads here that mentioned TX BNE is one of the toughest boards to deal with. But, anyhow I have to deal with them. Any help is highly appreciated.

I heard something about Finger Print requirement for TX. Anyone knows something about it ? Also, Can I get a temporary license from TX soon after the application so that I can start working ? Any 'round-about' ways /tips about getting a live person to talk at TX board ?

Just to give some background information about me : I am a foreign nurse and in US on a dependant visa. I am waiting to comlete my English papers.

The Texas Board of Nurse Examiners website would be a great place for you to start. If you go to the site at http://www.bne.state.tx.us and click on the link for forms it will have the application for endorsement and a link for the fingerprint packet. Texas BNE does process fingerprints for Texas department of public safety and the FBI, so be prepared. The area that has the forms also has the requirements for all endorsements and this will answer alot of your questions. Also, you can receive a temp permit, but if you are a foreign nurse this process takes longer and you may not get a permit quickly. The numer to the office that handles the edorsements is (512)302-6809. Good Luck and hope that this helps.

My advice: start the process way before you will need your endorsement as they are way backed up. Fed ex all documents and payments. When calling just plan on holding for a long time before you talk to someone. Call several times and make them check on where you are in the process. Don't count on getting your permanent license prior to your temporary running out if you do become a resident. They had a hard time getting my things processed 8 months ago, and if I hadn't kept calling, and also been very polite but adamant I would have been working without being licensed anymore and never known about it. All that said - they did eventually come through and "walked" things through at the last minute. Also, if you move to Texas and it is your primary residence you can only work under the endorsement for 30 days. Feel free to email me if you need any help. Best of luck.

Thanks for the input guys!

I've applied for the finger print packet (on their website) 4 weeks ago and nothing happened. I haven't received it yet. I dont know whether they look at the requests coming over the web or not. Worse, they want applicants to use the finger print cards given by them.

I think thats the tedious part of it. Also, anyone knows, how/who can do the finger print process ? Can I walk in to some place (??) and ask the concerned officer(??) to veify my records and do it..

I did a combo of calling and ordering the finger-print cards on the web. After 6 requests over 4 weeks. I got 4 at once. They do want you to use their card, and I just went to my local police station and they did my prints. I called and they said i could come in anytime. Acually kind of interesting to watch the goings on at the station house!

Believe it or not, my experience with the Texas BNE was a good one. I was a new grad with a brand new Alabama license and it couldn't have gone smoother.

I filled out the form for the fingerprint cards on-line and received them within a week. I took them to the local police station and had my fingerprints done. I was able to download and print all of the required forms for licensing from the computer, and when I had them all filled out I sent them in. I received my temporary license in two weeks and my permanent one a week after that.

Your process may take longer because you are foreign born, but hopefully it won't take too long. They said it could take 2-4 months for the fingerprint processing to go through, but you should get your temporary while that is taking place.

Good luck!!

The BNE will put you on hold forever, but they will eventually pick up. On occasion, I've been lucky and have had someone pick up right away. They must have hardly anybody working there. If NY is a compact state, don't bother to send in application for endorsement until you are ready to list TX as your residence. I made the mistake the first time because I was living in N.C. and claimed NC as my residence. I was going to be moving within 3 months to TX, but I thought I'd get a head start. They instructed me to wait until about 2 weeks before my move to apply again.

Unfortunately, I had a misdemeanor charge against me when I was 18 years old (26 years ago) and was required to list that on the application. The TX BNE would not grant me a temporary license. Instead they are making me wait 3-6 months while they do an "investigation". So far, it's been 3 months and this whole thing has turned into a nightmare. My husband and I had already bought a house here in Austin before we even moved and we are living on one salary until my license comes through. Getting my license in my home state of NC was easy and they didn't blink an eye at something that happened that long ago. They did the same criminal background check that they do with every applicant and my license was granted soon after I took the NCLEX. I would say that the TX BNE has a lot more red tape to deal with than others and while everyone at the office has been courteous, dealing with them has been a huge hassle. You will have to get fingerprinted - they will send you the fingerprint cards.

I hope you have a better experience than I did.

Anyone knows whether TX BNE has an email ID for customer service (Endorsement).. i looked deep in to their website but could not find any. Not to mention, their phone line is busy all the time..:(

I don't have an e-mail address on anything they have sent me. You might try sending a fax. The fax number for endorsement is (512) 305-6870. They might email you back if you send your address. It's worth a try.

Good Luck

I just got my LVN license for Texas and since the RN and LVN board are in the same place .

Here is a number to call 512-305-7400.

Call early in the morning right at 8 am when they open stay on the line do not hang up ,even if it says "line is busy call later ,press 0 again and keep doing it ,it can take up to 45 minutes but someone will answer the phone.

There FAX number is 512-305-7401

All forms you can get of the internet @ www.bne.state.tx.us

I tell you.you'll need patience ,but once you get to talk to someone you have to be persistant ,ask for their name .Often that does not help because everytime you call someone else picks up the phone.

Fill out your forms early and then make sure you have everything else you need either faxed or mailed to them ,then check that they have recieved everything ,if you can , check every day .

Then once they issue you a Temp.License do not wait till it almost expieres after 2 weeks call and ask where your permanent license is and when it will be issued. DO NOT forget to ask whom ever you talk to if all your papers are in order .

I hope this will help you ..

GOOD LUCK

TX board is giving me a tough time.

I have applied for my endorsement from NY to TX on Oct 2004 and got my temporary license rightaway. On october 10 th NY has sent thier RN license verification to TX and on October 15, when I called up TX BNE, they have told me that they recieved it.

eing a foregin nurse, I had to give them my license verficiation from foreign school and I have been told by my foreign nusring school that my License was sent to TX on Nov 25th. But for my surprise, when I called up TX BNE on DEc 2, I was shocked by the representative statement that "We are still waiting for Verification from NY and Forighn School"

The NY state verification, which TX representative had confirmed its receipt before, is now MISSING !!!. I am sure someone there has misplaced it. There is no word about Foreign License verification. They kept on telling me that it was not recieved !!

Anyway, I am planning to drive down to Austin this week and BEG to them. Does anyone has any experience in this ? would they allow you inside ? Does anyone has any DIRECT phone number of ANYONE concerned about endorsement in TX BNE ? who/what is the repsonsible person/dept for this in BNE ? Also, For foreign nurses, will they accept VisaScreen certificate from CGFNS in place of Foriegn RN license Verification ?

Any help is highly appreciated.
