New Nurse relocating to McKinney Texas, need advice!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi, I have a questions for someone who had recenlty relocated to Texas. My family including DH, 2 DS (3.5 years old and 2 years old) will be moving to McKinney on Sept 1 and the new house that I am building in McKinney will not be done until late Sept. Now , my question is where should we stay before we can move in to our new house? Since we are moving from Minnesota, we have no idea what hotel is good and has reasonable price. Anyone know of any extended stay hotel that will provide a nice kitchen and rooms (at least 2-3 rooms) for our kids to nap and play in?We only need to stay in a hotel for a month so anything that can save us some money, it will be great. We don't mind staying around McKinney area such as Plano, Frisco...

Also, I am wondering if anyone has experience using any movers or pods before? Any good tips on relocating your family? Please post here.

Thanks ahead for your information.

Hi there,

:)

It is great to talk to you especially you know so much about the area. I will have more questions for you when you email me . By the way, where is Market street and is the closest Walmart Superstore in Plano? Thanks!

I live in Stonebridge Ranch just off Eldorado & Lake Forest. Market Street is at Eldorado & Ridge (just north of the Craig Ranch area). Super WalMart is east of Craig Ranch on McKinney Ranch Parkway. The closest Sam's and/or Cosco is approximately 10 miles away.

Shortcut to Charlton? Hmmm...nothing I'd call a 'shortcut'. 75 South to I-35 South then take 67...I think. Or you could take the Tollway down to I-35. With the lovely construction (the orange traffic cone is the state flower!) on Highway 121, you're about equi-distance between 75 & the Tollway.

(The other 2nd-store is called Kid-to-Kid & there's one at Eldorado & Ridge)

Most of the builders in Stonebridge/Craig Ranch are pretty reputable. We've built our house 4 years ago and are having Baby #1 the month you're settling in. Good luck to you & your family! :)

How long is the drive from Frisco to Grapevine? Is the tollway expensive?

Are there many nursing jobs in the McKinney/Frisco area?

Thank you!

Plenty of jobs in the DFW area...just depends on what you want to do!

Frisco to Grapevine would be 45 minutes to an hour, depending on what time you were driving (7a? 7p? Banker's hours?)

I think most of the tollbooths are 40 or 75 cents. Just get a Tolltag...then you can pretend you're not paying! Until of course you have to add money to your account! :chuckle

You have picked the best part of Texas for Nursing opportunities. There are jobs galore at competitive income levels in and around the metroplex area. Good luck in Texas. It is a great state.

I am glad to hear that. You have any idea which hospital is reputable with good benefit and pay?

I presently work with HCA, which is Lonestar Health. They seem to have good financial support and a good reputation in the area. I have assisted Nurses from many area hospitals and have found that there is an exodus from several due to extremely long hours, tight financial circumstances or unrealistic expectations..

I think Medical center of Plano and McKinney are both under HCA? Am I right?

Do they have internship on the ICU?

Yes, they are both HCA. I am not sure on the internship arrangement.

The ICU/CCU Internship at Medical Center of Plano is excellent. They have combined didactic instruction, bedside experience, and the AACN online program to create a very thorough internship.
