Is ANYONE in or applying to the HCC ADN program? I'm thinking about applying, but I have heard nothing about it which kind of worries me. I would love to hear any feed back from current students and applicants!!

Hi! I have been accepted into the program and am in the process of admission. I have my first day of orientation for Fall 2012 this week..in which I'm really excited for! Getting into the program is a lot of work, but that is expected with all the Nursing programs I chose HCC because they are the only community college that does clinicals in the Texas Medical Center! Taking Pharmacology as a pre-req is the hardest part in my opinion! It's a challenging class, but very interesting! Study, study, study!! And master the dosing calculations because that test is very important! Best wishes!!

Thank you for your reply, and congrats on being accepted! Hopefully I will be in your shoes in the spring! If you don't mind me asking.. What was your GPA, and test score?

    Thank you!!
No worries, I'm happy to help .. I remember what it was like to be in your shoes and just want someone to talk to for advise.
My GPA was pretty great , a 3.9. I got in with the HESI scores (before they changed it to TEASv last August)..
Although, just so you have an idea:
    Reading: 87
    Grammar: 88
    A&P: 88
    Math: 94
But from what I hear the HESI is easier because it is more subject specific. The TEAS is very broad, but they do have a great study guide.. (HESI's was really shabby in my opinion).
    :spin:
I do have to say.. After the "conditional acceptance" letter, getting all the shots and records together was a challenge (they gave us one month)! Its expensive if you don't have insurance and took some time to get done.
I suggest starting your shots early!

Hey i was wondering how diffucult was the pharm exam at the end of the course and how well u did on it?

Hello! I will be taking Pharmacology this Fall as part of their "Pre-admission" process... I had to do a lot of researching to find out information about this program! For that reason, I have finished ALL my shot records and pre-reqs this past May/Spring. I have also received an email to get my background check done which I have processed; I should be receiving it sometime soon now!

So it seems like the only thing I need now is my CPR certification.. which I still need to investigate where to get it done at... There seems to be different CPR cert.... Some with AER and First Aid or so. Any one have any clue which particular CPR and what places offers the class needed for CPR?

BTW I applied for Spring 2013, so I had to take the TEAS... BLUGH did I hate that test!! I like the HESI waaaaaaay better!! But what can you do. It seems like other schools like HESI and HCC is the only school (of who I have applied to) wants to TEAS.

This is the main page information regarding ADN at HCC

    Hi!
The Pharmacology course is no joke! They expect a lot -and expect it done quickly and well.
My class started with about 23 students.
    13 students finished the course...
I know of 7 that got into the program.
It's a weeding course, so be prepared!
I did ok, I could have done better in my opinion. But ended the course with a C+ (you have to have at least a 75)!

Oh , there isn't a cumulative final test, just a regular test like the others.
And the math/dosing test wasn't hard in my opinion - but DO make sure you know your list of acronyms and abbreviations, plus the ones on the "do not use list"..

    Best wishes!!!

Wow that is very intresting. I have a quick question for you. I was wondering if my gpa is about 3.0 before pharmacology wat are my chances of getting in for a male ( i heard it was easier for males to get in). And if i found the TEAS hard how hard will i find pharmamcology?

I'm pretty sure it's the same entrance for male vs female. It depends on how qualified you are for the program.
If you found the TEAS challenging than you will find Pharmacology pretty difficult.
Think about everything you need to know.. Prototype drugs and their generics, the class they belong in, how the class and the prototype act on the body, differences in generics, uses of the drugs (which a lot of them have different uses), contraindications, food and drug interactions, pathophysiology of the disease they are treating, patient teaching, etc..
Every test covers about 20-30 chapters (we covered about 60/72 chapters). Which contains about 10+ drugs per chapter. Just so you have an idea..
It's a lot of info in a short time.
Also, I heard they are adding Pathophysiology and using a score chart system for entrance. Not too sure about all that, but I know there has been talk about changing the entrance criteria.
I suggest attending the ER meeting for more accurate info on all that

    Hope this helps
