Collin College Spring 2013 applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I recently applied to the nursing program for Spring 2013 but have not been a student at Collin College. I have heard numerous things about how you get accepted, the importance of the PSB score, whether or not you have a degree, etc. Anybody out there in the same boat as me? Wondering what's true and what isn't? I was also told we should get letters in the mail some time around September 11 either being accepted or rejected. True?

Any knowledge on this would be great!

Are iPhone users good with Google groups? Android is fine with those, and they can also be easily used over the Web on a regular computer, as well as optionally get everything by email.

Not exactly sure since I switched from iPhone to Android but we haven't had any complaints with our Google site (not sure if that's different from group). It's really user friendly and you can have tabs like on a regular website to organize data and such.

Some of us are unable to register for our classes because our major is for nursing field of study and not the nursing associate of applied science. We will be going up to school after christmas break to make the necessary changes, there is no official meetup for this. If you registered without a problem just make sure you turn in your stuff for the 4th and we'll see you the 14th.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I have created a facebook account and used that to make a facebook group for us - let me know and I'll send an invite. its called "Collin College RN Dec 2014" (rather uncreative, I admit).

Once you are a member of the group you can invite others in - so no one person has to do all the invites, we invite each other. I have already put a few events up on the calendar there, and uploaded the syllabus for each of our RNSG classes to the files area, as well as the calendar we were sent. Everyone will have the ability to create events, send messages, post pictures or documents, and put up group questions or surveys.

Its a private group, so people cannot see our posts or pictures, they can only see who the members are - if people want to, I can make it "secret" which means only the members can see the group and membership.

The intent is to have a quick way thats easy to use on your mobile device, so we can update each other. For in depth stuff, kind of like the discussions here, we will need something that supports more things, like different topics, picture/text uploads, and the ability to search and catagorized posts - basically a message board that will key off the Facebook group.

Let people know thy can email me the facebook ID and I can send an invite to the group.

[email protected] or else look for "Justa Student-rn" on facebook.

The latter is just an account I created to do admin work of creating the group. I'll be more than happy to give others admin access so no single person gets hit with keeping up the facebook group, and I will share the "Justa" login info with other admins so the group never gets stuck.

All current/former students are invited, especially those who are ahead of us and can give us good advice. Let me know if you want in that group too.

Im setting up a google site tomorrow, since it looks to have tabs and different discussion threads, unlike facebook, which seems better suited to quick time based things.

The clinical date you have right now is a placebo. You will get your clinical assignments a few weeks after classes start. Generally once you are assigned it cannot be altered. You can communicate a preference but you are obligated to take whatever is assigned to you and most of the time requests either can't be or just aren't accommodated. Trading is not permitted. Welcome to nursing school! ;)

Thanks!

There's a small chance I will be unable to make the orientation on Monday. Would someone mind filling me in? I am scheduled to be induced 1/10, but depending on the outcome, I may still be at the hospital. I will call the nursing department if need be. Thanks in advance!

No problem. I'll email you a copy of my notes and PDF scans of all the handouts (I will also be uploading them to our Facebook and Google group files section). Which do you prefer, Google or Facebook?

I prefer Google please! The news today is if everything goes well in the morning, we should all be going home Saturday night or Sunday, so wish me luck! Thank you!

Push!

Did anybody buy the Med-Math book? I didn't because they told us not to in orientation but we have a test on the first day. Also, a pharmacology test. Any thoughts?

Dec '12 graduate here. You should buy it. I used it all 4 semesters for the math exams that you'll have at the beginning of every semester.
